How do I get LightDM to work in FreeBSD 13?

Hi.

I installed the lightdm package.

Then `nano /etc/rc.conf` and added `lightdm_enable="YES"`

This didn't work. This did work for SLiM:

`slim_enable="YES"`

Try lightdm_enable=“YES”

In SLiM, I can't auto-login as there's no /etc/slim.conf file.

Did you try using ```service``` ? Just run ```service lightdm
enable``` or ```service lightdm start```. If you enable lightdm that
way it writes an entry in /etc/rc.conf automatically.

Hi. I did that and rebooted. I get a CLI login and entered `startx`.
No LightDM. Hmm.

Did you alsko install lightdm-gtk-greeter? I think this is required.
Install lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings to enable editing lightdm
settings.

What's in your .xinitrc? Were you following the Handbook? (I'm betting
no)

Don't forget that this is FreeBSD, not Linux. There's a different
directory structure here.

You should not need an .xinitrc if you're running lightdm

I had a similar problem and the solution was to install the \`xorg\`
package. I thought my desktop environment (cinnamon) would depend on
it but it seems it didn't.
