Trying to install FB from the memstick.img reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-22 07:02 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Darth_Ender_Ro · 2022-04-22 07:06 I kept asking myself how do you want to install Facebook from a memstick… ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-22 07:16 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-22 07:17 **F**ree**B**sd, not that anti-social crap. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rykolepl · 2022-04-22 08:31 I belive anything that isn't -RELEASE will download latest files anyway, but I may be wrong ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eg_taco · 2022-04-22 10:38 I think they were being facetious , but FWIW this post is the only one I can find on this sub where “FB” is used to abbreviate “FreeBSD “. The only other hits it gets are for hex strings (like MAC addresses or hashes) and then more often as an abbreviation for “frame buffer”. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-22 13:27 Are you guys here to argue about a simply FB. Wow Never mind ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-22 13:28 Okay. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-04-22 14:27 Which image, *exactly*? `FreeBSD-13.1-RC4-amd64-memstick.img` (for AMD64)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-04-22 14:57 > bsd-base I see no such option. If you mean `base-dbg`: it's not required. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sfxsf · 2022-04-22 20:09 One could argue that using FreedBSD is an anti-social experience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- reddit_original · 2022-04-22 20:18 If it takes that little for you to give up then I can see why you can't install it properly. Especially considering the first source you tried. (Not that I think reddit is my top choice for such questions.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-22 21:30 At this point I don't know what you are talking about. If you can't add anything constructive. Why said something? Have a good one ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-22 21:31 Yes, that one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-04-22 21:32 Oh, I thought base-dbg contained cat and ls, and some other utilities. Plus some debugging tools. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-04-22 21:57 > Oh, I thought base-dbg contained cat and ls, and some other utilities. Plus some debugging tools. Thanks Not quite. From : >> `base-dbg` - Base tools like cat, ls among many others with debug symbols activated. Oversimplifying: * `base-dbg` is not necessary if you want to make normal use of `ls` * `base-dbg` may be useful if you intend to debug things. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-04-22 22:05 Thanks. It worked for me today with an HP ZBook Firefly 15 G8. If I recall correctly: in addition to the defaults (`kernel-dbg`, `lib32`) I chose `ports`. Then with larger `FreeBSD-13.1-RC4-amd64-dvd1.iso` written to the same USB flash drive, I chose `ports` and `src` in addition to the defaults.
