Trying to remember a name of an oldschool telnet client reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 16:26 Hello people, sorry to ask a strange question, but perhaps somebody remember a telnet client for Windows. As I remember, it was written specially for \*BSD. It worked in text-mode, emulated cons25, was able to switch "consoles" with ALT-F1/F10 keys. Do not remember how it was called, was proprietary or not, was it able to handle SSH or not. I wonder if it's still alive and available for download? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-02-16 16:45 [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terminal_emulators ) has a list of many different applications capable of telnet. I have no idea what has been available on Windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 16:53 Thank you, unfortunately, it's not listed there as well as here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison\_of\_SSH\_clients ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ruyrybeyro · 2022-02-16 17:06 Was it mintty or mobaxterm? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 17:07 No and no :( ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AGodThatCanDance · 2022-02-16 18:43 It was called HyperTerminal (`HYPERTRM.EXE`), IIRC. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 18:49 No, no, noway! Impossible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AGodThatCanDance · 2022-02-16 18:52 Oh, then probably looking for [this one](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows- server/administration/windows-commands/telnet) which was shipped by default, at least in Windows XP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 18:54 No, no, not the default Windows stuff. The terminal was written, as I think, specially for FreeBSD, as when I used it, it looked exactly as I sat in front of FreeBSD console. But that was 20 years ago :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AGodThatCanDance · 2022-02-16 18:55 Oh, okay. Sorry about this then. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 18:58 Np, sir :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- timvandijknl · 2022-02-16 19:00 I think most people use Putty ? [https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/\~ sgtatham/putty/](https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/) But it's probably not what you're looking for ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 19:04 Me too using putty, but I suddenly remembered how that was cool to open and switch between consoles using ALT-Fn keys :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KurtHaeusler · 2022-02-16 20:14 Was it trumpet windsock, ewan or crt? Or something else on this list? https://bertola.eu/ftp/winsock.htm?_l=en&_1=1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- donnaber06 · 2022-02-16 20:28 putty? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m8r-1975wk · 2022-02-16 21:37 SyncTERM? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 21:40 Seems not again. Let's say the terminal is from the win2000 era, anyway thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 21:42 >SyncTERM Nope, not a dialup/BBS software. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 21:42 Noooo, sorry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-16 21:43 Meanwhile, remembered a couple of other things about the app. It should the most probably Russian or Ukrainian soft. Supported termcap. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wfaulk · 2022-02-16 21:46 VanDyke CRT/SecureCRT? TeraTerm? TN3270? It wasn't made FOR BSD, per se, but was/is a multi-protocol terminal client (ie AS400, UNIX Console, etc etc). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rage_311 · 2022-02-16 23:26 Wouldn't hurt to crosspost to r/unix too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ummmnmmmnmm · 2022-02-17 00:48 tera term? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Weird_Childhood8585 · 2022-02-17 06:15 Tip? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IanArcad · 2022-02-17 09:44 You could check this list: [The Simtel.Net Windows 95 Collection: Winsock Programs](http://www.lanet.lv/simtel.net/win95/winsock-bydate.html) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-17 11:34 Wow! Development has stopped a long time ago, but it's still available on some online software storages. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mezantrop · 2022-02-20 18:22 Yes, yes, yes!
