I'm not able to change the user agent from Chrome to Firefox on google chrome (which run with the linuxulator) using the unpacked extension "UserAgent-Switcher" reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loziomario · 2022-02-14 14:33 Hello to everyone. After several attempts I've been able to install successfully Google Chrome (not Chromium),following this tutorial : [https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/...-google-chrome-linux-binary-on- freebsd.77559/](https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/...-google-chrome- linux-binary-on-freebsd.77559/) It runs without problems,it's a shame that it does not allow to install extensions, because a bug that has been fixed for chromium, but not for Google Chrome,as u can see below : (and yes,I'm running the latest version,97. I mean, this bug has been fixed for chromium version 97,but not for google chrome 97). this is the bug still open : [https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show\_ bug.cgi?id=258573](https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2 58573) To overcome the bug and even because I want to sync and access my google account,I've installed the UserAgent-Switcher in developer mode (I've cloned the github and I've chosen to install the extension unpacked) using this : [https://github.com/ray-lothian/UserAgent- Switcher](https://github.com/ray-lothian/UserAgent-Switcher) the tutorial about how to run google chrome at the end,it says : >\*Note: Syncing or accessing your google account won't work. It will display: "Couldn't sign you in This browser or app may not be secure. Try using a different browser. If you’re already using a supported browser, you can refresh your screen and try again to sign in." > >To fix this, change your user agent to Firefox, for instance, and login to Gmail (keep it logged in). Then change your user agent back to default and turn on sync. User-Agent Switcher and Manager extension is what worked for me 👍 that's exactly what I did,but unfortunately it won't work for me. Two different user agents are detected and the default one is again the chrome one and for this reason I can't login to my Gmail address and I can't sync. You can see the video below that I've recorded to understand what happens. Maybe I made some mistake trying to change the user agent and I'm not realizing what's wrong. Please help, thanks. [https://drive.google.com/file/d/18AuPxiIHTabLxTL\_HOKfJj0vUv7tgeow/vi ew?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/18AuPxiIHTabLxTL_HOKfJ j0vUv7tgeow/view?usp=sharing) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-02-15 11:59 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-02-15 18:17 Sorry, I have difficulty reading it, can you format the texts? Thanks https://old.reddit.com/wiki/markdown ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loziomario · 2022-02-15 18:35 I should change the user agent without the need of any extension by appending : --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; Linux x86_64)" to the Google Chrome wrapper. Something like this: /compat/linux/bin/chrome --user-agent="Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; Linux x86_64)" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opeqa · 2022-02-18 18:31 Why don't you use www/chromium? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loziomario · 2022-02-18 18:52 because sync has been removed from chromium. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-02-18 20:12 I forgot about that. (Glad that I never grew to rely upon Chromium.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loziomario · 2022-02-18 20:29 maybe there are also some other advantages using chrome over chromium. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-02-19 07:26 Widevine DRM, certainly, although I don't need it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loziomario · 2022-02-19 11:10 Widevine DRM is not on Firefox under FreeBSD ? I don't see it. It seems that Google does not care about FreeBSD. As it seems that they want people uses Chrome and not chromium. Google wants make business, they don't love so much open source. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-02-19 14:36 > Widevine DRM is not on Firefox under FreeBSD ? True. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loziomario · 2022-02-19 16:33 why ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2022-02-19 16:40 Source code is not available. ◀ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loziomario · 2022-02-19 16:50 ohhhh. the proposal that I can't do because I'm not a developer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-11-13 00:09 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- z0ccc_z0ccc · 2022-11-13 00:09 You can also use the 'Vytal' extension to spoof your user agent.
