Wayland hikari unable to drop root reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-02-14 11:50 Hi there, I’ m trying to switch to wayland and hikari but I have the error ‘Unable to drop root’. I installed wayland,wayland-protocol and seat daemon, wlroots too. I’ m also tried to build from source. I added seat to my rc.conf. XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is set to /tmp/1001-runtime-dir and chmod to 700. My user is in group wheel and configured likr this in /etc/group. captainchris:*:1001:/home/captainchris:/bin/bash Do you have a solution please ?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PreviousWay · 2022-02-14 13:52 I don't know that particular error, but are you also in video group? and try chmod 777 instead. Apart from that, if you build from source, did you set SUID config? I think it should be off, not 100% sure, but if you install from pkg, check what that one has set with pkg info. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-02-14 14:09 Ok I will try to setuid. I saw also that maybe a seatd problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PreviousWay · 2022-02-14 18:06 I thought about it later and I think it should be not set/off. IIRC suid set was the older way and now it's different since it uses seatd. if you don't find a solution, try asking in their irc, it's quite active and you should get a reply. details here https://hikari.acmelabs.space/#community ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PreviousWay · 2022-02-14 18:24 p.s btw, your /etc/group looks weird. did you add your username to wheel and video with `pw groupmod` ? that's the format of /etc/passwd you posted Also I just reinstalled the package and the message is a bit different now and not so clear. To check, just add/start seatd to rc.conf, then run hikari or with dbus (not with seatd command) `# dbus-launch --sh- syntax --exit-with-session hikari` p.s.s. additionally install pkg xcb (otherwise you get garbage displayed in tty - although should not stop hikari from running)
