XFS root file system. reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-01-28 19:32 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mazarax · 2022-01-28 19:33 I aspire to be a new BSD user (long time LINUX user) and am in the process of installing it multiboot on a Haswell PC. I would like to keep it simple, and just have one filesystem on a dedicated disk. I thought I would use XFS for that, as that seems a simple way to use that from Linux as well? During the install, I get a warning that it is not bootable? Is XFS as your root supported by FreeBSD? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- trasz · 2022-01-28 19:41 No, it’s not. Stick with zfs unless you have some good reason not to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Morris_Mulberry · 2022-01-28 19:52 FreeBSD only supports UFS and ZFS for root. [XFS has read-only support through a kernel module](https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=xfs &sektion=5&apropos=0&manpath=FreeBSD+7.0-RELEASE).
