Hardware acceleration reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Netris89 · 2021-12-15 20:21 Hi, I've been really interested in trying FreeBSD and so I decided to set up a VM using VWMare Workstation to play a bit with it. Installing the OS and a DE went fine. But I've quickly realized almost anything I do is really taxing on the CPU (spikes to \~80%). I tried searching how to enable HW acceleration but after reading [the doc about vmware](https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=vmware&apropos=0) and [the one about xorg.conf](https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?quer y=xorg.conf&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+10.1- RELEASE+and+Ports&arch=default&format=html), I'm really confused about how to achieve what I want. Could anyone point me in the right direction ? Thanks in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-12-15 23:08 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rykolepl · 2021-12-16 09:12 Xorg should be able to auto-configure itself when you have no xorg.conf. Try changing model of GPU in vmware workstation settings. Or, just install freebsd on seperate hard disk and dual-boot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Netris89 · 2021-12-16 09:29 I'll give it a shot. Thank you.
