How to enable the automatic login (using my username and password) + run startx every time FreeBSD restarts. reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- loziomario · 2021-09-18 18:49 Hello to everyone. I've passed all the day trying to understand how to launch anydesk every time my PC reboots. It won't work if KDE doesn't restart automatically bypassing the insertion of username and password. There are two obstacles before it happens : 1) I should enable the automatic login into KDE plasma at each reboot AND 2) restart automatically xorg at each reboot. actually I enter my login and password each time the PC restarts and then I should issue the command "startx" ,otherwise xorg does not start. I dont know why,but it works like this. But this behavior is not good for me because I want to make available anydesk interactively for my cooworkers each time the PC reboots. Infact I have also enabled the booting from FreeBSD from the BIOS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FoFinky · 2021-09-18 23:25 It sounds to me like you don't have a display manager installed but want the features offered by one. You can install any that you'd like the but handbook suggests sddm as a suitable one for KDE. You'll want to do 'pkg install sddm' then add ' SDDM_ENABLE="YES"' to /etc/rc.conf. I fetched this information from [the handbook](https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/x11/#x11-wm), just jump down to 5.7.2. To facilitate autologon you will need to configure sddm and the arch wiki has a great page on that [over here](https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/SDDM#Autologin). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rykolepl · 2021-09-18 23:27 > actually I enter my login and password each time the PC restarts and then I should issue the command "startx" ,otherwise xorg does not start. This way, when pc start, xorg with sddm starts, and asks for password in graphical mode. And from there, you can configure sddm to auto-login. I think it's inside settings app in KDE. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2021-09-18 23:53 Set preferences for **SDDM**. https://i.imgur.com/0Jd5WD9.png
