pkg cannot find kitty terminal reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jayjuicejay · 2021-06-08 13:45 So I am trying to install kitty terminal. According to FreshPorts there should be a package for it. It was even updated as recently as June 4th. [https://www.freshports.org/x11/kitty/](https://www.freshpor ts.org/x11/kitty/) However, when I go to try and install via pkg I get this error: `pkg: No package available to install matching 'kitty' have been found in the repositories` Is there a special repository I need to add or anything special I need to do that I am missing? I am new to FreeBSD so just curious why it says it should be there, but is not there when I try on my machine. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- maxwalktheplanck · 2021-06-08 14:18 Are you on a less common processor architecture? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anopheli · 2021-06-08 14:29 When this happens to me it always means the package is failing when FreeBSD builds the official repo. This usually resolves in a couple days as they work through failing ports and rerun the Poudriere jobs. I don’t see kitty in pkg either at this moment. Alternatively, I just built kitty with 4 threads from ports under two minutes. Grab all the dependencies listed on Freshports, and you can do so yourself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jayjuicejay · 2021-06-08 14:44 No x86\_64. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jayjuicejay · 2021-06-08 14:44 Okay. I will maybe try and build it myself. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dkeav · 2021-06-08 15:13 Are you running the Quarterly pkg branch or Latest. Most likely the package was added after the last Quarterly build series and will be in the next one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jayjuicejay · 2021-06-08 15:37 I am unsure. I am just using whatever the default is. I am on FreeBSD 13.0-RELEASE. Is there a way to change to pkg branch Latest? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jayjuicejay · 2021-06-08 15:44 Yes I was on Quarterly. I changed it in /etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf to latest and kitty was now available. Are there any downsides to using Latest instead of Quarterly? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dkeav · 2021-06-08 16:05 The main downside is the risk of updating at a time when a package may be broken. Quarterly updates more slowly aside from security updates, but is more likely to "just work". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- obiwac · 2021-06-08 19:18 Sorry for not being of any use, but I was literally wondering where it was just a couple hours before your post too lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- clumsyKnife · 2021-06-08 20:29 That must be it. I wrote the port and it was accepted on May, 15th :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2021-06-09 00:24 Thanks. https://portsfallout.com/fallout?port=x11%2Fkitty%24 no recorded fallout for your architecture at the time of writing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2021-06-09 00:26 > I don’t see kitty in pkg either It's a relatively recent addition to ports https://www.freshports.org/x11/kitty/#history not yet in quarterly https://www.freshports.org/x11/kitty/#packages
