Nothing in /usr/ports reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aggravating_Page435 · 2021-05-03 15:45 Hello folks. I did freebsd 13.0 installation. During base Install I did not keep my internet on so it download base cli system on my pc. I am using cd iso. My PKG is configured properly and my internet is working too. Yesterday, I typed "Portsnap fetch" It did download a file and verify it. But process keep in going with no stdout coming for whole half hour, so I terminated it with ctrl+c. Now today, I am doing "portsnap fetch" but nothing is happening. It checks for mirror but it did not download file like yesterday. It did not Verify anything and it hangs like yesterday so I did control-c again today. I did not do any other configurations as such. So, can I directly download ports manually without using portsnap? Or do I make fresh install again? Or it is downloaded and do I have to just type "portsnap extract"? Thank you this subreddit for always be helpful. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DotaOnFreeBSD · 2021-05-03 16:06 If the fetch was completed you just extract it and it should show up in ports Else you can manually configure it from the github page ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-05-03 16:16 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FUZxxl · 2021-05-03 17:23 Apart from using Portsnap, I strongly recommend using git for keeping ports. This makes updating easier and allows you to check out the quarterly branch (which portsnap does not support). Try this as root: cd /usr/ports git clone --shallow -b 2021Q2 https://git.freebsd.org/ports.git . This clones the current quarterly branch into `/usr/ports`. To update it, type cd /usr/ports git pull ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aggravating_Page435 · 2021-05-03 18:11 I am talking of file that got downloaded. It is compressed file. I did not see any file in /usr/ports. I did not remember file name but it is 89 mb of size. I have suspicious that this size is too small to have port collection in it. Any way that file is nowhere to be seen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aggravating_Page435 · 2021-05-03 18:11 I will try this. Thank you :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aggravating_Page435 · 2021-05-03 18:11 Okay thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wizzzarrd · 2021-05-03 19:35 This is such a good idea, I’m stealing this! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Get0utCl0wn · 2021-05-03 23:48 Running "portsnap auto" seems to work here...unless I'm missing something. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aggravating_Page435 · 2021-05-04 03:06 I did not see any auto in handbook page of freebsd. Still I will try it. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AGodThatCanDance · 2021-05-04 14:49 It's downloaded elsewhere (`/var/db/portsnap`), so all you are/were missing is `portsnap extract`. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aggravating_Page435 · 2021-05-05 03:01 Okay. I will see if it is there or not. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grahamperrin · 2021-05-07 18:19 ### gitup https://www.freshports.org/net/gitup/ `gitup ports`
