Android Tablet as Second Monitor reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- samcdc6600 · 2020-09-13 19:34 Hello, I've made a post about this on the FreeBSD forum but I thought I'd post it here as well to widen my net of information capture IDK. I've followed this guide [https://blog.8bitbuddhism.com/2019/12/01/how-to-use-your-android- tablet-as-second- monitor/](https://blog.8bitbuddhism.com/2019/12/01/how-to-use-your- android-tablet-as-second-monitor/). Basically I can get the tablet to display my desktop via VNC over ADB. But there are two major problems. Firstly the ADB connection to my tablet seems to stop after about 30 seconds or so. I think this might be because my tablet is using USB 3.0 as I have read on some forum [posts](https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/12491/adb- constantly-disconnects-shows-device-offline) about ADB on Linux that this was causing ADB to fail and it would work if you force the port to run in 2.0 mode. So basically I want to set a USB 3.0 port to work as a 2.0 port using some command (I've looked in the BIOS and I can't see an option for this.) I want to do [this](https://www.systutorials.com/how-to-force-a-usb-3-0-port-to- work-in-usb-2-0-mode-in-linux/) but on FreeBSD. The second problem is that I want to use the tablet as a second monitor so I need to create a virtual display as they do in the guide. I couldn't figure out how to do this. Some other guides define a custom resolution using Xrandr and then attach it to an unused port such as a HDMI port. I've tried this and it doesn't seem to work. This is the original post that I made on the FreeBSD forum it's got a bit more info if your interested: [https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/android-tablet-as-second- monitor.76868/](https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/android-tablet-as- second-monitor.76868/) Sincerely Sam ---------------------------------------------------------------------- electrobrains · 2020-09-13 19:44 Try the pciconf tool if you want to write to PCI registers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rodrigo975 · 2020-09-15 06:28 Useful guide specially the adb trick, thanks for sharing ---------------------------------------------------------------------- samcdc6600 · 2020-09-15 19:52 Yeah I had some trouble finding out about it. I mean all the guides seem to be about VNC but they do it over WIFI. Which I don't really think is very useful for a laptop. Anyway I still need to solve the problems I mentioned but I am happy that I even manged to get it work over USB at all.
