Bitcoind problem reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m416415 · 2020-08-17 11:10 Hi all! Can someone point me to the right direction? I have jail and bitcoind installed in it and the problem is when I'm in jail I'm entering command bitcoin-cli getblockhaininfo it returns: error: server returned HTTP error 403. I'm on 12 stable and bitcoin version is 0.20.0.0-ga62f0ed64f8bbbdfe6467ac5ce92ef5b5222d1bd As long as I remember, when I had 12.1 release and bitcoin version 0.19 I did not had this problem. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m416415 · 2020-08-17 15:29 Just installed bitcoind on host and there everything is OK... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m416415 · 2020-08-17 15:40 That's mean that probably something missing in jail.conf... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bro_can_u_even_carve · 2020-08-17 18:46 Is bitcoin-cli running in the same jail as bitcoind? Does the user bitcoind runs as have permissions to read/write the blockchain data directory? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m416415 · 2020-08-18 07:00 Yes I have only one jail on the system and yes, because blocks is being downloaded and written to /var/db/bitcoin I can hit ctrl-c, launch bitcoind again and it will start from the last downloaded block. I assume that bitcoind user is bitcoin ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bro_can_u_even_carve · 2020-08-18 09:11 Hm, yeah, that seems OK. How about your bitcoind conf file or command line arguments, does the keyword `rpcpassword` appear anywhere in either of those? How about `rpcallowip`? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m416415 · 2020-08-18 14:09 Yes I tried it rpcallowip=127.0.0.1 no effect ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bro_can_u_even_carve · 2020-08-18 18:59 Hm, I think I might have got it. Try making it rpcallowip=$JAILIP, where $JAILIP is the IP address assigned to the jail itself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m416415 · 2020-08-19 13:26 Thanks u/bro_can_u_ever_carve, I will check it, I need to solve problem with my nic that appeared yesterday and then I'll write here back. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bro_can_u_even_carve · 2020-08-19 18:33 Cool! I'm pretty confident it will solve the problem at this point, hopefully it does :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m416415 · 2020-08-22 11:33 No effect the same error. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bro_can_u_even_carve · 2020-08-24 21:32 Damn, really? I was pretty sure that had to be the problem, because I noticed that inside a jail, connections to 127.0.0.1 do appear to the listener to come from the actual jail IP. jail3:/# nc -vl 127.0.0.1 5555 & jail3:/# nc -v 127.0.0.1 5555 Connection from 10.0.99.3 49963 received! Connection to 127.0.0.1 5555 port [tcp/*] succeeded! Since the default rpcallowip is only 127.0.0.1, this seems like it would result in exactly the error you're seeing (HTTP 403, which is "forbidden"). I guess you're sure you got the IP right (run `ifconfig -a` inside the jail), and restarted bitcoind (is the right `-rpcallowip=ADDR` option visible in `ps auxww | fgrep bitcoind`), right? Is there anything interesting in the bitcoind `debug.log` file (inside the `-datadir` directory) when this error occurs?
