Fix TLDE on macbookpro9,1 and use macbook78 model? reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- agrajag9 · 2020-08-14 20:26 How do I force the macbook78 xkb model on a 2012 macbookpro9,1? And how do I fix my TLDE so that it actually can type tilde and backtick, not lt and gt? Per `/usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/macbookpro91.conf`: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "CoreKeyboard" #Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "macbook78" #Option "XkbLayout" "us" #Option "XkbVariant" "macbook" EndSection But from in X: $ setxkbmap -query -v 10 Setting verbose level to 10 locale is C Trying to load rules file ./rules/evdev... Trying to load rules file /usr/local/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev... Success. Applied rules from evdev: rules: evdev model: pc105 layout: us Trying to build keymap using the following components: keycodes: evdev+aliases(qwerty) types: complete compat: complete symbols: pc+us+inet(evdev) geometry: pc(pc105) rules: evdev model: pc105 layout: us Running `setxkbmap -model macbook78` from inside X changes the output above to make sense, but TLDE still only lets me type LT and GT. All other keys behave properly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- choppy812 · 2022-03-12 07:34 How did you end up solving this? I'm using a MacBookPro 11,4 with FreeBSD 13. My tilde key gives the LT symbol in X. At the console level before starting X, the backtick / tilde key is dead. Appreciate the help if you can provide some info. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- agrajag9 · 2022-03-12 12:04 Good news: I did solve this! Bad news: That laptop is collecting dust somewhere now after I finally got a new one BUT if I remember correctly it involved doing some manual tweaking of `/usr/local/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us`. There's an `xkb_symbols "mac"` section and I believe you may need to move a few things around. Please let me know if that helps, and I'll try to dig that laptop out, dust it off, and find my patch
