From 13-current to 13-release reddit / freebsd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-08-10 15:27 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dddddavidddd · 2020-08-10 15:52 I've downgraded from 13-CURRENT to 12.1-RELEASE with just compiling the source and `make installworld`. Worked fine for me. A clean install isn't that hard either and would be the best way. You could also consider back-porting the specific changes you need from 13-CURRENT into the 12.1-RELEASE source code and compiling. That's what I do to fix headphone jack issues on my machine and to get `hda` sound support in bhyve. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xerxero · 2020-08-10 16:02 But keep in mind that with major release changes (12 to 13) it is recommended to reinstall all packages with the correct ABI version. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xzenor · 2020-08-10 16:24 Thanks. I prefer freebsd-update tbh. Saves me an entire day of compiling and a load of disk space.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nahnah2017 · 2020-08-10 16:25 CURRENT becomes STABLE. STABLE becomes RELEASE. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- highway-to-helvetica · 2020-08-10 16:29 FEAR becomes ANGER. ANGER becomes HATE. HATE becomes SUFFERING. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-08-10 16:32 You can try backporting the fix to 12 and compile. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rhavenn · 2020-08-10 17:25 No, the `freebsd-update` toolchain only supports updating to new patches or between '-RELEASE' versions. It doesn't support working with '-CURRENT' or '-STABLE' builds. If you don't want to deal with compiling from source then either wait for 13.0 to release or plan on re-installing once it is released. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xzenor · 2020-08-10 17:43 already been done.. it was in the vmx driver patch from last week. It's better, but not completely solved for me. So I'm hoping for some other changes in 13 that might fix it entirely. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xzenor · 2020-08-10 17:52 thanks for the advice ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dannomac · 2020-08-10 18:20 I've done this several times. Just follow HEAD in /usr/src, and be careful to watch for it becoming -stable, then start following stable instead. I've been running 12-STABLE for a long time now, and 13 is shaping up, so I might start doing it again right away. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- one_is_the_loneliest · 2020-08-10 19:03 And a bunch of testing/fixing to make sure the patch applied correctly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- electrobrains · 2020-08-11 03:58 If ABI changes occur, version bumps for the shared library name do as well, so I never had any problems with upgrades. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnicornMolestor · 2020-08-20 03:56 FOOD becomes POOP
