Need help with python-mode and flake8 reddit / emacs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Domva · 2022-12-10 12:57 Hi there, I'm having trouble with python mode. Specifically, there's a command \`python-check\` which runs a code checker on the current buffer. You can specify which checker to run and by default it's \`pyflakes\`. Everything works as expected and the code gets checked. However, if I try to use \`flake8\`, the encoding is all messed up (from what I understand) and I can't seem to figure out how to fix this. You can see the code (lsp works as expected and I do get autocomplete, suggestions, documentation, etc with pyright) [All good here, lsp works as intented](https://preview.redd.it/8y7gen3 xg25a1.png?width=2880&format=png&auto=webp&s=a39f3dad0a87101d23ae89d08 5403ebccbbc9b21) Now, if I run \`pyflakes\`, here is what I get: [This is also good, pyflakes works as expected](https://preview.redd.i t/jnqmsb2mh25a1.png?width=2880&format=png&auto=webp&s=0562cfde42e17131 57b6c223751891fe94a50852) Now I run \`python-check\` (C-c C-v keybinding): [flake8 instead of pyflakes](https://preview.redd.it/hzx53wbuh25a1.png ?width=2878&format=png&auto=webp&s=8d634256583c8f637aceeada985de442b35 ee90f) And what I get is this: [flake8 encoding?](https://preview.redd.it/comv17j4i25a1.png?width=288 0&format=png&auto=webp&s=e20dfd7c9e1e1544f481a4099f2f2c17a5a7211b) Which actually works, but my guess is encoding is messed up somewhere and I am not sure where exactly. As a side note, running \`flake8\` in vterm works normally: [vterm](https://preview.redd.it/eyq824ydi25a1.png?width=1446&format=pn g&auto=webp&s=58d7df642d53fda48f61e05390df265d133cb68a) I also tried \`(set-language-environment)\` to UTF-8, but that didn't help. Has anyone encountered something like this and resolved it? Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- podtatranec · 2022-12-10 14:57 If I understand what you mean correctly that's not encoding, those are control characters to change color of output. They normally get interpreted by your terminal emulator. But if things are going through pipes most programs turn those colors off. I don't have a suggestion other than change your searched to look for color coding problems ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Domva · 2022-12-10 15:01 Thanks! Will try. EDIT: lol, that was quick. I needed to add ansi support in compilation buffers: (require 'ansi-color) (defun colorize-compilation-buffer () (ansi-color-apply-on-region compilation-filter-start (point))) (add-hook 'compilation-filter-hook 'colorize-compilation-buffer)
