Yeah, I Run Emacs on my Steam Deck, Ever Heard of It? reddit / emacs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- helpivefallenandican · 2022-08-24 22:51 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- duetosymmetry · 2022-08-25 00:43 Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nv-elisp · 2022-08-25 02:22 The linked website is unreadable ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _viz_ · 2022-08-25 02:25 Indeed. It manages to be worse than the really obnoxious font people LOVE to use in their Android phones, which IMO is a spectacular feat. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- helpivefallenandican · 2022-08-25 03:18 Damn this is literally the first time I've ever got feedback about the font choice! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SaggingLeftNut · 2022-08-25 04:17 I concur, there's better fonts to choose from. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- qZeta · 2022-08-25 05:00 Even without the font (thanks NoScript!): a website's text should never be entirely italic, as it removes one level of emphasis. `` (`*emph*` in Markdown) usually defaults to *italic*, and `` (`**strong**` in Markdown) to **bold**. Also, the `12px` font size choice doesn't help either. But the site looks fine in Firefox' reader mode, especially without the whole emoji salad. So /u/nv-elisp, try your brower's reader mode, that seems to work fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- qZeta · 2022-08-25 05:04 > Without a keyboard, this is not so useful in general I'd recommend you to get a Bluetooth keyboard (and a portable SteamDeck stand) if you want to use Emacs on the road. > visudo -f /etc/sudoers.d/wheel Eh, isn't the FS usually read-only? You might use that change on the next update. Any reason why you don't want to use the Emacs flatpak? Flatpaks, as far as I understood, are resilient to system updates. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-08-25 08:03 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- darudesandstrom · 2022-08-25 08:27 It was only a matter of time. I know I was thinking of it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- saevarb · 2022-08-25 09:06 This is the worst I've seen. Just wow. What a terrible day to have eyes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NowaStonka · 2022-08-25 10:22 I was about to sit down and install it there :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-08-25 10:42 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cgore2210 · 2022-08-25 11:52 I do too! Thought I was the only one 🤣 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AngryFilament · 2022-08-25 15:10 If being dank is what you wanted, the font works pretty well ---------------------------------------------------------------------- helpivefallenandican · 2022-08-25 16:57 There's an overlay FS mounted for /etc, so changes there will persist. I didn't use flatpak because I wanted to use GccEmacs and do all the module precompilation stuff that emacs-overlay provides ---------------------------------------------------------------------- frozeninfate · 2022-08-25 17:25 Nice! I was looking to do the same ---------------------------------------------------------------------- helpivefallenandican · 2022-08-25 20:58 thanks for the concrete feedback. still chuckling at "what a terrible day to have eyes" upthread. I probably should have done the italic selection in the font-family rather than overriding font-style, and may indeed do that. I don't really use `/italic/` in the org docs this site is rendering for emphasis, just `*bold*`, `_underline_` and `=verbatim=`. so I hardly notice myself, especially since I stare at the same typography all day in emacs (12pt vulf mono italic for variable pitch, vulf mono for code/verbatim), but you're right that it can be semantically confusing.
