Docker Desktop is Now Available on Linux but Emacs already have docker.el reddit / emacs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- csemacs · 2022-05-10 19:34 [https://www.docker.com/blog/the-magic-of-docker-desktop-is-now- available-on-linux/](https://www.docker.com/blog/the-magic-of-docker- desktop-is-now-available-on-linux/) Emacs alternative - [https://github.com/Silex/docker.el](https://githu b.com/Silex/docker.el) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnathanDee · 2022-05-10 22:00 Yup! And it's fantastic! Plays nice with docker-compose. Has a magit- style hydra interface. Displays images and containers in tables with dired-like interface so you can halt or login etc with a key press. In sum: it's awesome. Never tried docker desktop because why would I? I haven't tried git desktop either for the same reason ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jigarthanda-paal · 2022-05-10 22:44 Magit has a transient interface :) transient and hydra are similar but different packages ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnathanDee · 2022-05-10 22:44 Didn't know that thanks! TIL ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheSnowIsCold-46 · 2022-05-11 01:38 Yes! Just discovered docker.el a few months back and it's a fantastic package for docker ---------------------------------------------------------------------- psd6 · 2022-05-11 03:00 Sadly it doesn’t really support podman, which I’ve completely switched over to now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noman_032018 · 2022-05-11 04:34 I would suggest logging an issue regarding that. The last issues on said topic were quite a while ago. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- agumonkey · 2022-05-11 06:39 It confused me too :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dakra · 2022-05-11 09:43 docker.el actually uses transient and not hydra. It's an awesome package and I'm pretty sure better than docker desktop as it's well integrated in Emacs and you can easily open a eshell/vterm/dired/etc to your running container. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- psd6 · 2022-05-11 10:08 Yeah I saw some wip branch, but it seems nothing much happened since then. Not sure if there’s any point in reviving that topic. I’m not in a place to implement anything myself unfortunately. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SvenMA · 2022-05-11 14:23 This was probably me and is on hold since then because I forgot about it.
