Should I make modes for Valve file formats? reddit / emacs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] 路 2022-03-23 01:04 I've been thinking about making some modes for Valve formats (keyvalues, schemas, and options); but I feel that they aren't going to get used. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- metanivek 路 2022-03-23 01:10 If you鈥檇 use them and want to make them, I鈥檇 say go for it even if nobody else uses them! 馃槃 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OgdenWebb 路 2022-03-23 01:24 If they don't exist yet, just do it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] 路 2022-03-23 01:59 Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ieure 路 2022-03-23 03:28 I 100% agree. A big part of the appeal of Emacs is making it work how *you* want, making it easier to do the things *you* want to do. If others get some benefit from that, that's great! But not required. Example, I wrote a nicely polished [mode for TL/1](https://github.com/ieure/tl1-mode), an proprietary programming language for obsolete test equipment. I'm almost positive that nobody else has used it, or has any reason to. But I do, and it's nice, and that's all I need. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChristopherHGreen 路 2022-03-23 04:36 I made modes for those when I worked there. I forget what modes I based them off of. I also have a "valve" c++ indent style in my .emacs :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sickofthisshit 路 2022-03-23 14:06 More people understanding how to make Emacs modes is good for Emacs and Emacs users. Go for it!
