Windows Full-AOT binaries reddit / emacs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mplscorwin · 2022-03-19 20:10 My build process has become somewhat stable. After each run the scripts upload everything (binaries produced and scripts used) here: [https://corwin.bru.st/emacs-28](https://corwin.bru.st/emacs-28) In addition to what gets posted to the [alpha FTP site](https://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/windows/), the scripts make and upload "NATIVE\_FULL\_AOT" versions (from the `emacs-28` and `master` branches, currently). If you aren't familiar, passing `NATIVE_FULL_AOT=1` to `make` triggers full ahead-of-time native elisp compilation. In the case of Windows builds, this means the build will include DLLs for most/all elisp sources distributed with Emacs. These DLLs can be used without additional pre-requisites apart from what is included in `emacs-.zip` (or `emacs--installer.exe`). This is useful when you can't --don't want-- to put GCC/libgccjit on a Windows system where you use Emacs. Thanks much for all of the help testing out the builds I've been making and in advance for your feedback on the AOT versions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tutux84 · 2022-03-20 20:46 Thanks \*a lot\* for your work Corwin. I'm a simple user who have been silently following your work on emacs- devel list since (I think what is) the beginning of your journey a few months back on providing Windows builds to the community, but I never took the time to thank you. I have been using your emacs-28 builds daily on my work computer since your first release (February 6th, IIRC), and they have been working solid since then. I have yet to try your emacs-29 builds. Hopefully soon ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mplscorwin · 2022-03-21 00:34 Wow - blushing at the award as well as your kind words. Very glad to hear they are working for you and happy to be able to pitch-in, with creating binaries and (hopefully) making the Windows build process even simpler too. Thanks for commenting! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- desgreech · 2022-05-28 08:18 Are you planning to add `NATIVE_FULL_AOT` builds for Emacs 29.x? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mplscorwin · 2022-05-28 12:08 If we can't talk folks into making that the default for the GNU distributed binaries, yes.
