GNU Emacs For Mac OS X warning message after macOS Monterey update reddit / emacs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BVPs · 2022-03-16 04:42 Hello. I just updated my iMac from Big Sur 11.6.5 to Monterey \`12.3 today, and suddenly, I got the following warning when I ran GNU emacs (the one downloaded from [GNU Emacs For Mac OS X](https://emacsformacosx.com/)) from Terminal: $ /Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs 2022-03-15 21:34:51.135 Emacs-x86_64-10_14[6713:94719] It's not legal to call -layoutSubtreeIfNeeded on a view which is already being laid out. If you are implementing the view's -layout method, you can call -[super layout] instead. Break on void _NSDetectedLayoutRecursion(void) to debug. This will be logged only once. This may break in the future. Of course, I can suppress these warnings by redirecting outputs to /dev/null, but I didn't get such warnings on Big Sur. Is there anyway to fix this warning instead of just redirecting the warnings to /dev/null? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HeyItsLP · 2022-03-16 06:11 I'd by far recommend using [emacs- plus](https://github.com/d12frosted/homebrew-emacs-plus) from homebrew to install emacs for macOS. Additionally you can use it to compile it from source, I'm using the master branch with native comp and xwidgets. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mclearc · 2022-03-16 20:17 I [build emacs](https://github.com/mclear-tools/build-emacs-macos) myself from the master branch on an M1 and Monterey and don't see this issue. So it might be something either with your config or with that specific build setup. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BVPs · 2022-03-17 04:26 Thanks a lot! I just installed it via homebrew, and now no such warning messages are displayed! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HeyItsLP · 2022-03-17 05:02 Doom Emacs has a lot of information on running Emacs on macOS, I recommend looking through their getting started section just for the general information.
