Newbie. I opened my simple notes.org, and it seems to indicate it's an indirect buffer? "(Org Ind)" in mode line? reddit / emacs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Status-Detective-783 · 2022-02-18 06:10 I totally killed the buffer and just reopened the file (C-x f). https://i.imgur.com/NY0AMsU.jpg I can edit it just fine, but it's bugging me. Oh I also just now tried finding a new non-existent file abc.org, and it does the same thing. Here's my init.el file, it's pretty short: https://pastebin.com/c5i7wRTA ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nv-elisp · 2022-02-18 07:06 Checkout that INDentation, though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-02-18 08:03 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Status-Detective-783 · 2022-02-18 08:17 What? I do not understand what IND has anything to do with indentation. Joking haha. Ok thanks! So the following line set that up? [EDIT: YES IT DOES.] (setq org-startup-indented t) I commented that out of init.el, restarted, and got the same thing. However, I also have the following, maybe this also restores indented mode? [EDIT: YES IT DOES] (desktop-save-mode 1) That first line has been in my config for weeks now, so I guess I just now noticed the IND. Thanks again! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shryzr · 2022-02-18 09:16 Try M-x describe-mode to see what modes are enabled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- krjonovo · 2022-02-18 13:00 The "Org Ind" is the lighter (what Emacs calls those mode indicators in the mode line) for `org-indent-mode`. When you set up `(setq org- startup-indented t)` you sad to Emacs to enable that mode when you enter org-mode. There are other ways to enable that mode, best way to start to explore that is to see the description of `org-startup- indented` variable (`C-h v org-startup-indented RET`) and read the documentation string and then go on from there. Also you could go with mouse pointer over the "Org Ind" and press middle click (`mouse-2` in Emacs terminology) to open help buffer for the mode that is responsible for that lighter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Status-Detective-783 · 2022-02-18 15:54 Ahhh I didn't know that terminology or that all of those were clickable, thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Status-Detective-783 · 2022-02-18 15:58 I didn't know you could do that via M-x desc-mo, thanks! I did know about C-h m, though!
