BBS Taglines reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acetaminophenpt · 2023-10-27 21:37 Hello fellow BBS enthusiasts, I was just taking a trip down memory lane and thought about the classic BBS taglines we used to have. Remember those? Tiny little quotes or messages that would appear at the end of user's posts, serving as a sort of digital signature. Whether they were funny, philosophical, or simply a catchy phrase, they added a personal touch to the text-heavy world of BBS. I found a link that has a collection of some iconic BBS taglines: [https://khevron.tripod.com/khevron/taglines1.html](https://khevron.tr ipod.com/khevron/taglines1.html) Do you guys have any favorites or did you have a personal tagline you used back in the day? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blakespot · 2023-10-28 00:13 This is awesome! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 530_Oldschoolgeek · 2023-10-28 04:25 The two I used were: "Remember when sex was safe, and firefighting was dangerous?" and "SysOp's Creed: Coffee is God, Juan Valdez is the Messiah" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cyclop5 · 2023-10-28 19:31 I didn't have a "single" one I used - the offline reader I used (Bluewave, I think) had a list, and appended one to every message I'd write. SLMR would do the same thing. Some day, I think I'll write a 32 (or 64?) bit mail reader with a modern interface. But also, I've been saying that for 20+ years. So don't hold your breath :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- morgul12 · 2023-10-28 22:39 I collected a bunch of my favorite taglines and wrote a little program to add a random tagline to each email on my college's email system in the 90s. Kinda got in trouble when I emailed a question to a teacher (whom most of us disliked, actually).. The random tagline was: "You are twisted and sick; I like that in a person." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- acetaminophenpt · 2023-10-29 14:30 That's actually a pretty good idea! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElChacoVeloz · 2023-10-30 16:35 Behold the Taglines Galore! I added that to mine. It didn't take much work and is a fun touch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-11-07 07:12 Hm. I wonder how hard it would be to write a batch file or script using curl and the 100 random taglines to pick a totally random tagline from the collection for a completely original BBS Menu tagline? I've never used curl before, but I think it could work. Maybe htmlastext as well to crop out any html. It's a thought. The site seems pretty fast, but I don't know if it ever goes down. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-11-09 01:28 Done.
