FTN issues with Mystic BBS reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- crashj · 2023-08-19 06:45 I am new to Mystic BBS (coming from Synchronet) and I'm bringing up my fsx and Fido links and running into some issues. It is running on Linux aarch64. 1. My "mis poll forced" shows very little detail on what the connection status is, if it failed and why. It doesn't even return a result code. My outbound connections are failing to both fsx and fido. 2. Changing the mis logging settings in global doesn't seem to impact mis poll at all. I would expect to see socket level details with simple failures like authentication, settings, etc. My log files don't have anything actionable in them. 3. My fsx feed is working, but only inbound and not outbound. I've validated the DNS and port is correct and I can reach my outbound fsx hub with telnet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- a_blizzard_of_zeros · 2023-08-19 18:01 > I can't quite seem to grasp the construct of Echomail Groups. How do I separate my message groups so I don't see all my networks in one giant message board list? I do have some knowledge of Mystic bulk message board operations and using the scripting system to automate importing the infopack. In ./mystic -cfg go to: Editors -> Message Group Editor. Use / then Insert to create a new group. Example for me is: Name: fsxNet Short Name: fsxNet Access: s10 Info File: Hidden: No. Notice in the heading of the dialog where you type this in it has an **ID**. You will also see the ID on the right side of the list of groups once you've created a few (in my case, and probably what you want, one for each message network). Then in ./mystic -cfg if you go to: Editors -> Message Base Editor And select an echo, you will see all of the ACS fields. For fsxNet, I have these filled in as (this is for a public echo): * List ACS: s10g1 * Read ACS: s10g1 * Post ACS: s20g1 * Sysop ACS: s255g1 * List EACS: s255g1 The s part is the security level, so as new users are level 10, I let them read but not post. The g part is what you're concerned with - that's "group" and how you group these echoes into the groups you just made. Do I think this is a clunky way to do this? Yep. But it works. I am going to paste some of my configuration screens for fsxNet just so you can compare. * Echo config example: https://i.imgur.com/ZnTex16.png -- note the ACS format. fsxNet was the first network I set up, which is why it is group 1. * Group config example: https://i.imgur.com/p89bT8O.png * Echomail Network example: https://i.imgur.com/14R6F5Z.png * Echomail Node setup 1/6: https://i.imgur.com/ZnTex16.png * Echomail Node setup 2/6: https://i.imgur.com/m4LuKpb.png * Echomail Node setup 3/6: (everything is None here) * Echomail Node Setup 4/6: https://i.imgur.com/5Z5klHu.png * Echomail Node Setup 5/6: https://i.imgur.com/EhVmhR5.png * Echomail Node Setup 6/6: https://i.imgur.com/YXtALCt.png As for your other problems, I'm going to purposely screw up some of my configurations and see if I can figure out a way to extract useful error messages, but that will take me some time. I will post back once I have more info. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- crashj · 2023-08-19 23:22 The group ACS explanation was very thorough and brought me a much greater level of understanding. I'll go back and bulk edit my message boards. Thanks blizz! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- a_blizzard_of_zeros · 2023-08-20 01:49 Keep trying to send to fsxNet test arena; I'll be monitoring that to see if you finally make it through. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- crashj · 2023-08-20 01:53 I got a test post out recently last week, but only when my hub connects to me. I've ran tcpdump and for some reason mis poll is not sending any outbound fido traffic. I've checked my DNS configuration, and I've tried changing the listener address from 0.0.0.0 to my NIC's IP address. I've also used an IP address instead of a hostname, and correctly verified the port. (I can telnet directly to my hub's port) I am running the BBS with mis server mode, as a privileged user. Running out of ideas, unless it's some Ubuntu or aarch64 related bug. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- a_blizzard_of_zeros · 2023-08-20 04:13 Can you delete /mystic/logs/poll.log Then do the force Then paste what shows up in the newly created log (if anything?) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UCN_cyberstrator · 2023-08-20 18:30 Check out the MysticBBS sub: [https://www.reddit.com/r/mysticbbs/](https://www.reddit.com/r/mysticb bs/)
