I am writing a p2p based BBS but am having trouble with ANSI art. reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- InevitableAd6135 · 2023-08-08 01:29 I have an ansi art image I have chosen for my main menu, but I'm trying to overlay a menu on top of it. For those of you more experienced with BBS, could you explain to me how to do this in python? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- toadstoolpp · 2023-08-08 02:18 maybe you can do it by saving the ANSI as an animation and putting a character in the ANSI animation where you want the menu to begin it's display ---------------------------------------------------------------------- InevitableAd6135 · 2023-08-08 02:47 Thanks for your reply. The problem with that is people would have to interact with it dynamically. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- toadstoolpp · 2023-08-08 02:49 it was a poor solution ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-08-08 06:44 Maybe I don't understand what you're trying to do. I use ansi backgrounds, with menus overlayed on topy of them. Is that what you want? I just display the first image, then the menu. I have spaces in the menu and use light bars, but it seems similar. check out [https://shsbbs.net/bbs.html](https://shsbbs.net/bbs.html) or telnet to [shsbbs.net](https://shsbbs.net). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- InevitableAd6135 · 2023-08-08 17:28 Yes this is exactly what I want. I'm trying to do it in python. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- InevitableAd6135 · 2023-08-08 20:40 Are you able to do this with python? I would love to see how. My background is more in networking. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-08-08 20:47 You should just be able to display the ansis on top of eachother however you normally would. I don't know any python, I just display the ansis. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- InevitableAd6135 · 2023-08-08 20:49 So, I'm trying to use the curses library to display a menu on top of the ansi. But I'm having great difficulty as it will not let me specify the background. [Here](https://pastecode.io/s/xcb8p3qw) is what I have written, for anyone interested. This is just a small portion of the overall code. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UCN_cyberstrator · 2023-08-10 15:02 are you using that ftelnet to achieve the html version? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- syswraith · 2023-08-10 15:42 Link your BBS please :) it sounds interesting ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-08-10 20:08 Yep. I run a proxy locally (websockify, not ftelnetproxy) and run the java locally. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-08-13 03:03 If you look at the implementation of ftelnet that I use (thanks to Opicron for all of the work) it does #5, if (again) I understand what you mean.
