Mystic BBS Theme customization reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-23 14:15 I'm trying to change the color scheme on my new Mystic install and there are a few spots I just can't seem to find the source of. Specifically, there's the "Yes No" prompt used in several places (Sign-up, password reset, etc) that is blue but I'd like to make green. There's also two questions in the application ([Email address and the "How did you hear of us"](https://i.imgur.com/dDHtEgm.png) question. I've scoured through menus, text files, and prompts and just cant seem to find where these might be hiding, any ideas? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dperry324 · 2023-06-23 15:00 In the prompts file, they are prompts #439 and #443 Edit your prompts in the theme editor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-23 15:12 Thank you! I now realize that the "default.txt" they are referring to in the documentation is actually the prompt number. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out where the hell that config file was stashed. Guessing the wiki entries refer to an older version? **Ask Email** *If this option is set to Yes, Mystic BBS will ask new users for their email address. Mystic uses prompt #439 in default.txt to display the text for this question.* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UCN_cyberstrator · 2023-06-23 15:38 There is a dedicated Mystic sub here on reddit? [https://www.reddit.com/r/mysticbbs/](https://www.reddit.com/r/mysticb bs/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-23 16:26 Are you asking me? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UCN_cyberstrator · 2023-06-23 17:05 NO not really, I'm just spreading the word. if your interested. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- toadstoolpp · 2023-06-23 17:12 You can search all the prompts, it might even be ctrl-f to do so. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-24 06:43 To change colors of the theme you can check the mystic -cfg, there is a whole section for theme colors there. I wish someone told me before I started messing with prompts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-24 13:10 Help me understand this better. I saw the default theme colors, but how are they applied? If I just change the theme colors and don't touch the prompts are you suggesting those colors will be changed based on the defaults?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-24 15:59 Yes, for example the blue background of input fields. I changed all the prompts. Then I found out that we can adjust that color in the mystic configurator. For colors I think there is a mystic pipe call for setting a certain theme color. That will make your theme easily reconfigurable. In the prompt you set theme color instead of a fixed color. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-24 16:57 Are you sure? I just created a new install, copied the default theme over and reset all the default colors in the new theme but nothing changed in the prompts or menus, they're all the same colors. Not sure what pipe call it would be or how it would work on existing prompts with set color values. I've also gone through all 554 prompts on my main install and changed everything manually, but the [footer status bar remains blue](https://i.imgur.com/yirTAvO.png) and I see no leads on where the hell that is generated and finding any info outside of the sparse wiki is proving to be harder than I expected. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-25 19:19 For tye background prompt color I am 100% sure. Let me check how it works for the other colors. Will report back :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-25 19:30 From Mystic BBS manual: Each Theme in Mystic BBS can also have a set of custom colors configured specifically for that theme. These can be accessed by using the following codes: T1 : Sets current color to theme's color #1 T2 : Sets current color to theme's color #2 T3 : Sets current color to theme's color #3 T4 : Sets current color to theme's color #4 T5 : Sets current color to theme's color #5 T6 : Sets current color to theme's color #6 T7 : Sets current color to theme's color #7 T8 : Sets current color to theme's color #8 T9 : Sets current color to theme's color #9 T0 : Sets current color to theme's color #0 So, in the prompt you can use |T1 to set Theme color 1. Which makes future customizing much easier. Instead of hardcoding each color like I did. Hope this helps you in your theme. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-25 19:47 Thanks, but I'm not understanding how it would make things easier since I still need to go through all the prompts and change them to the theme color? I guess I assumed there was a bulk way to change *all* the prompt colors without having to go through each line. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-26 06:57 I did think the default colors would 'listen' to the theme colors. If they dont it is still good practice to use them instead of hardcoding colors. Even if its the same effort initially afterwards its a single click. Maybe there is a theme available which is using theme colors already? It might be a good idea to check. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-26 12:29 It doesnt make sense, and by the end of the weekend I mostly achieved what I was looking to do. I'm still stuck with some colors I dont want in the bulletins/emails, but those are hard-coded into the mpx files and I have no idea how I could even edit them. I wouldnt even know where to begin looking for new themes, juist getting support/documentation was hard enough! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-26 15:40 The mpx files are binaries compiled from mps files in mide. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-26 16:03 Yep. but how would you edit and recompile? Bulletins seems like it could be done based on the mps file in that dir, but mailread just invokes a menu command to the ANSI reader. I'm trying to go for a very old-school monochrome theme, but theres just so many colors in the messages! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-26 16:09 If im not mistaken there should be a program mide in the mystic folder. Start it, load the correct mps file, change some code and recompile. It only has a few menu options. You can find them by pressing escape. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chumprock · 2023-06-26 17:01 Yep! And I really do appreciate the help, but here is what the mailread mpl contains: // Very basic MPL program to execute from command line. // // This loads the ANSI message reader for you, and then will log off after, // allowing Mystic to be used similar to something like GoldEd. Begin MenuCmd('MI', ''); End. So not a lot to work with. Not sure if there's a way to configure colors on the ansi viewer since I havent gotten that far yet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-27 05:32 Ah, the mailreader and fileviewer have seperate configuration files. They are either in the scripts folder or in the text folder.
