Best SSH Client for Windows? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-06-17 05:24 I'm looking for something that is signed for Windows and available from Microsoft store that is full-screenable. What options are available? I've been using Netrunner and Magiterm alternatively (Netrunner is my favorite, but doesn't support all of my SSH connections. Magiterm, which supports my SSH flawlessly doesn't have an aspect ratio obeying fullscreen mode) but neither of those fit my needed categories of being signed for Windows and being available from the Microsoft store. I don't mind using them, but I'm looking for a solution for users who aren't comfortable running applications that Windows can't guarantee are safe. So far, the only real option is ftelnet as a web client, but that doesn't fullscreen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dikkiesmalls · 2023-06-17 05:49 Terraterm maybe? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PraiseBobSlackOff · 2023-06-17 08:14 Good question and unsure. I use Magiterm myself and find it sufficient. On a side note, props to you for having a group of users so security focused. Last office I worked in struggled to keep everyone from opening every email attachment that came their way. The company I work for now (a big one) routinely sends fake phish emails and the results are appalling. So, good for you, mang. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2023-06-17 10:25 SyncTerm, PuTTY, NetRunner, and Qodem are the clients I've used. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dikkiesmalls · 2023-06-17 11:42 Magiterm is nice, I run that in my windows box ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-17 12:33 Ftelnet can full screen. Check website bbs.theforze.eu for a example. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UCN_cyberstrator · 2023-06-17 14:15 Dump windows and switch over to a Unix system, ssh is built in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JonnyRocks · 2023-06-17 15:02 ssh is built into windows too. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/terminal/tutorials/ssh ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JonnyRocks · 2023-06-17 15:02 you can use ssh in windows terminal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kynmore · 2023-06-17 16:22 Termius; great cross-platform client. Does Telnet as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fading-Ghost · 2023-06-17 16:33 I use gitbash Edit: I have it integrated with the windows terminal, so I get the benefit of tabs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jayw654 · 2023-06-17 17:34 I vote for Bitvise. Great interface and its free. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- swolf154 · 2023-06-17 17:46 I've tried em all and syncterm is the best. It's been recently upgraded and can now render RIP graphics and many other emulations. Get it here [https://syncterm.bbsdev.net/](https://syncterm.bbsdev.net/) . I doubt you'll find anything like syncterm in the Microsoft store. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digitlman · 2023-06-17 20:09 SyncTERM v1.2b (b is for beta) now supports GDI and GDI fullscreen output modes. And SSH of course. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UCN_cyberstrator · 2023-06-17 21:54 that wasn't my main point about ssh, it was the switching to Unix ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-06-17 23:22 It needs to work with 80x25 ANSI BBSs and be signed in a way that Windows 10 doesn't complain when trying to run it for the first time as well as have a 4:3 fullscreen mode. Syncterm's mouse cursor handling is less than acceptable. I never know if I'm going to be clicking on what I think I am. I haven't tried 1.2, though, I may give it a shot. It's really too complicated for my users. Thanks for all of the input, that was good to come to this evening! As for ftlelnet, [bbs.theforze.eu](https://bbs.theforze.eu) didn't work as a link and it does have a fullscreen option, but I've never seen it work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rafabsides · 2023-06-18 00:20 SSH inside Windows Terminal. It’s the best terminal for windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-06-18 00:40 Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk. More info I know it is safe, but my users don't trust anything that reports this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-06-18 00:42 Not for BBSing. I didn't think I'd have to state that intention, given the area this was posted in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-06-18 03:43 You don't have to convince me. My users won't use something that isn't signed for Windows, though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-06-18 03:48 That domain times out before connecting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-18 10:53 Sorry, i block traffic from some countries. Must be a false positive. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digitlman · 2023-06-18 19:03 The mouse pointer changes (e.g. from I-beam to arrow) when going from copy/paste to mouse reporting mode. Your BBS software should allow you and your users to disable mouse support in which case the mouse in SyncTERM is only used for copy/paste. SyncTERM v1.2 isn't released yet, but you can try v1.2b (beta). Yes, it supports fullscreen mode. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-06-18 20:11 Not the mouse support in the BBS software, the actual mouse pointer in Syncterm. When I click on it, half the time it's not on the line I think it is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digitlman · 2023-06-18 20:29 I don't know what OS/environment you're running SyncTERM in. Try the different interface modes with the '-i' command-line option and see if you find the mouse input behaving more to your expectations. And v1.2b has a lot of changes since the latest release (v1.1), so that'd be good to try too and see if what you're describing has been fixed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digitlman · 2023-06-18 20:32 Assuming Windows (based on this subject of this posting), I've not seen what you're describing (with the mouse), but you have Windows Console Mode, SDL, and (in v1.2b), GDI mode (preferred), you can experiment with. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rafabsides · 2023-06-19 14:32 Im sorry I wasn’t inside the subreddit when I answered. It makes sense for sure. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-20 12:52 I made it full screen through css file. Left a message on the board how to do it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- opicron · 2023-06-21 07:08 @media (min-width: 1025px) .fTelnetCrtCanvas { height: 100vh !important; } Thats the one to make it fullscreen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-06-21 08:56 I saw that in the html source code, thanks much! I'll give it a shot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Aheadcover · 2023-07-27 00:29 try sysax ftp automation, supports file transfer with FTPS, SFTP, or FTP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-07-27 20:27 Again, since this was posted to the BBS Subreddit, that is irrelevant. I need a BBS SSH client that is signed for windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- uglyfruit2020 · 2023-08-19 23:25 If anyone is interested in a FOSS ssh client for windows (soon linux too), I've published a new PyPi (Python). it's multitabbed, has stored/encrypted creds, themed light/dark and a mix. Its intended for network engineers who manage switches and routers a lot, but work fine on most anything. Please take it for a test spin if your interested. This is a first release, but is really very usable and friendly. There are a lot of opensource SSH Gui's out there, but Python was lacking, so I wrote one. [https://github.com/scottpeterman/UglyPTY](https://git hub.com/scottpeterman/UglyPTY) is the source, or just to install an kick the tires: all you need is python 3.9 or higher and "pip install uglypty" [https://pypi.org/project/uglypty/](https://pypi.org/project/uglypty/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2023-08-20 00:16 Yeah, my query was for BBS usage, hence the bbs subreddit. Thanks though!
