Synchronet BBS hosting on Linux, $7 reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Traditional_Lynx_951 · 2023-05-25 03:52 Periodic reminder of my Synchronet hosting service While I no longer offer free servers I have a reduced price of $7 for a dedicated server running on Ubuntu 20.04. You get a full website and a free \*.synchronetbbs.org domain name is included. You also get full root access since it is your server after all. To get more info just go here: [https://synchronetbbs.org/HostSplash]( https://synchronetbbs.org/HostSplash) and I can get started on setting it up for you. BTW we do offer higher-level BBS hosting, but this is a better deal than the old $5 server since it is not shared. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2023-06-06 02:53 So how does this work? does it include the Synchronet BBS software already installed, and then I can login and configure it myself? Sorry Not very familiar with this type of hosting, but have been looking to put my old Telegard BBS online, but I might be able to migrate over to Synchronet ---------------------------------------------------------------------- saxainpdx · 2023-06-10 04:24 Can I have a custom domain? Or just redirect my custom domain to the \*.synchronetbbs.com? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Traditional_Lynx_951 · 2023-06-11 20:05 Sorry for the late reply. Yes I set the server up for you and include a ton of door games already configured. You get full shell access and my Synchronet utils too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Traditional_Lynx_951 · 2023-06-11 20:06 Yes, you just need to configure your DNS with the IP address I will give you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2023-06-11 20:34 Funny I was just speaking someone about synchronet. I used to run a Telegard BBS back in the day. So I can edit menus and add and remove door games too? How do I access the setup and settings, through a website login? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Traditional_Lynx_951 · 2023-06-11 21:17 Yep you get shell access where you can edit the menus. You use ssh or putty if you are on Windows. There is both the standard "scfg" config tool you run in the shell to configure the BBS itself. And my management console helps with other shell tasks so you don't need to know Linux very well... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2023-06-11 22:44 Ok , I’d prefer not to have to download any 3rd party clients if I don’t need to. I subscribed earlier and will give it a try when you get everything setup.
