Digging through some personal stuff from circa 1993 I ran into some post-it notes where I wrote down BBS phone numbers. reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2023-05-18 08:14 Kinda reminds me when I first got into BBSing around 1991. I inherited a work computer that had a modem and Telix installed - but the list hadn't been updated. Once I found more BBSes that I could call, I wrote them down on sticky notes like these until I could go back in Telix and update the list there. Fun times! :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- csmende · 2023-05-18 10:49 Had the best names, we did. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hedgecore77 · 2023-05-18 11:19 For me it was many disks with backups of my Telemate phone list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- batman305555 · 2023-05-18 15:04 No French Connection? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-05-18 15:24 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ImHiiiiiiiiit · 2023-05-18 16:57 Yeah, but how would you know if they supposed v.42 BIS?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RDOmega · 2023-05-18 17:35 Telemate was/is so good. So glad to see it mentioned. Could never understand why anyone used anything else at the time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- germdisco · 2023-05-18 18:27 Wow, it looks like you had a lot of options! I wish that I had some money during my dialup years to pay for long distance calls. I would’ve tried some of the BBSes outside of my area code but within my state. Or someplace like NYC. I went to a few BBS-affiliated meetups in my region, and it was fun to get to know some people. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hedgecore77 · 2023-05-18 19:41 I started on Telix... but man. After trying Telemate, the notes, phonebook, shell to DOS, etc. It was just a superior client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigBadBart25 · 2023-05-18 20:12 Be cool if there was some local ones in my area of erie Pa. But I don’t think any exist. Or maybe they do and I am not aware! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dragotha · 2023-05-18 22:20 I still have my dot-matrix screen prints with hand written notes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- calvinball14 · 2023-05-18 23:41 not gonna lie, low-key upset that mine wasn't on there ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mpd-RIch · 2023-05-19 01:51 Omg 😳 I recognize at least Bob's! A couple other names are familiar but idk those area codes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BadnewzSHO · 2023-05-19 03:19 The only one that I recognize is One Man Crew. The SysOp Donatello was a member of my BBS. He did some minor releases from time to time, but he was a good trader. Good times. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eabrodie · 2023-07-29 10:18 Oh man, does this bring back the best memories of my childhood!! Do any of you remember Clown Town BBS or Nocturnal Emissions BBS? My go- to pirate boards at the time, topped off with shareware hoarding from More BBS. Telix and Qmodem were my favorite programs back then. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eabrodie · 2023-07-29 10:21 My friend back in college hosted French Connection BBS. Loads of porn on there for whatever subscription he would charge. He practiced linked list manipulation with Turbo Pascal to generate detailed catalogs thousands of image names and descriptions. Pretty awesome.
