Getting an old Powerbook to connect to a BBS: What Client to use ? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- knightwize · 2023-04-23 07:51 Hey peepz, I just purchased and old Powerbook 3400c with Macos7 on it and would like to get into the retro vibe and connect to some BBS's. What BBS Client would you recommend for this ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- My_Random_Username23 · 2023-04-23 08:18 I'm not familiar with Mac OS 7 but see if you can find a telnet client for it by googling telnet Mac OS 7 or telnet client for Mac OS 7 stuff like that could yield a better resukt ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-04-23 12:48 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joshrenaud · 2023-04-23 17:53 I highly recommend [DataComet](http://www.datacomet.com/download.html). It was my program of choice under Mac OS 8 and 9 in the late 90s and early 2000s. I never see it mentioned in modern day discussions of Mac ANSI BBSing solutions, but I loved it when I was younger and it worked great at the time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chairmanmow · 2023-04-23 19:25 The client I preferred to use back in the day was called "MicroPhone Pro", had a hard time finding any record of it existing with my google searches - it was commercial software, I got my copy back then by putting a disk in a demo computer at a computer store and copying it over cause I was a kid and didn't have the money. But it was a hidden gem of a terminal for Mac BBS'ing. The other one I would occasionally use would be ZTerm, which was shareware, widely distributed and can probably be found on the net - it was decent but Microphone Pro did a better job at rendering ANSI and such. ZTerm might have been a little better for download protocols I think, but I'm assuming most people aren't using BBS's to download much these days, more so about rendering the content so if that's what you're about as well, if you see a copy of "MicroPhone Pro" I'd grab it and see if it works for you. I can't find a copy though, in fact I thought I may be losing my mind cause it was hard to find but ultimately I found a thing that shows [MicroPhone Pro did in fact exist as I remember it.](https://wiki.preterhuman.net/Software_Ventures_MicroPhone_Pro) Edit: Scratch what I said about not finding a copy, this looks like a [download link for Microphone Pro.](https://www.macintoshrepository.org/39485-microphone-pro-1-x)
