Popular Amiga BBS Software reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mike3y · 2023-01-07 00:03 I’m looking for a popular bbs package for Amiga? I’m looking at emulating Amiga since I don’t have the hardware. Any suggestions? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mcasao · 2023-01-07 00:39 C-Net BBS, Paragon, DLG-Pro and AmiExpress were the ones I used and remember. The latest Cloanto Amiga Forever v10 Amiga emulation kit also does modem emulation now as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2023-01-07 01:10 Image BBS is another one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SerpentineDex · 2023-01-07 01:41 I used to run a board based on Daydream BBS. It was AmiExpress inspired/compatible, faster and a bit more user friendly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- frikandeloorlog · 2023-01-07 04:17 i used max's bbs back in the day ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinacolada459 · 2023-01-07 04:59 To the best of my knowledge, Image BBS wasn't written for Amigas. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinacolada459 · 2023-01-07 04:59 Was it Excelsior BBS that was on the Amiga? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2023-01-07 11:23 Ah, so it may be just Commodore 64/128? I'm not a Commodore expert. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SpitfireTN · 2023-01-07 14:10 I been running C-Bet Amiga Pro for the last 12+ years. You can leave feedback to the owner requesting a copy by telneting into [fw2.cnetbbs.net:6800](https://fw.cnetbbs.net:6800) He just released an up-date late last year and there are more new things to come! Check out my Commodore boards! More info can be found here: [http://www.rofbbs.com](http://www.rofbbs.com) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mike3y · 2023-01-07 16:36 Thanks will do. Do you have official hardware or do you emulate? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SpitfireTN · 2023-01-07 17:18 I emulate with WinUAE. Been using it for over 12 years now. WinUAE and ClassicWB. Both installed and work like a charm! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinacolada459 · 2023-01-07 21:49 Yeah, just the Commodore 64. There was a 128 version being worked on but the programmer erased it out of spite. I'm semi-involved with Image BBS development, and one day I would love to have a 128 version. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KrUpTi0n · 2023-01-07 22:10 Amiga Express is one of the best and still active ---------------------------------------------------------------------- resmungomandinga · 2023-01-09 00:23 Yeah. I was just remembering it. The only Amiga BBS I called ran it and it was a great board. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mike3y · 2023-01-09 10:37 I started looking at it but realized fast I have to learn Amiga OS first. Stuff related to user startups don’t seem to be available under emulation? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VIVXPrefix · 2023-01-20 22:14 Hey my dad created DLG Pro in Saskatoon. Cool to hear people talking about it still. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mcasao · 2023-01-21 16:40 He did great work! I loved that software. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- VIVXPrefix · 2023-01-21 21:22 He said he started it just for himself to use. He wanted to run a BBS but didn't like any of the options that were out there, so he started coding DLG. Eventually enough people started emailing asking if they could buy a copy that he decided to get the help of a few friends and start to expand the software, write up a user manual and get boxes made to distribute it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bigfug · 2023-02-06 23:09 Zeus BBS, surely? I wrote that one with my friend Nick. We later sold the code. Some history here: https://www.bigfug.com/software/zeus- bulletin-board-system/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- crkrjak2001 · 2023-02-19 16:16 Alex? I'm interested in running a Zeus board. I've had my C-Net board back up again for 4 years now and would like to get a Zeus one running. Any chance of getting a manual and a license key? My emails to Nick have gone unanswered. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bigfug · 2023-02-19 18:19 Nick and I haven't been involved with Zeus since we sold the source code way way way back, so we can't help you out with a key, but I did run across this web page the other day: [https://blog.nootch.net/post/amiga-bbs- online-2019/](https://blog.nootch.net/post/amiga-bbs-online-2019/) I don't endorse the files that they are sharing. In fact, I remember when we found out that the key file had been stolen and uploaded to pirate sites and there was nothing we could do about it. I wouldn't know that one day perhaps I'd be sort of grateful... So far I've got a test install up and running under WinUAE. I plan to put it onto a dedicated Raspberry Pi 400 next week. https://preview.redd.it/s1yb3fc8a8ja1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto =webp&v=enabled&s=87bce9c158104d4de50321d132f05b0dfeb96865 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- crkrjak2001 · 2023-02-19 20:51 Nice! Please post when you're fully online? I do have an earlier version running in WinUAE, but I would prefer to pay for the license than use the pirated key. But without a manual I've got no idea what I'm doing. Any idea where I can find a pdf copy of a manual? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bigfug · 2023-02-19 21:49 There is an HTML manual in the archive. I don't know how it compares to the original printed one. I've emailed the current Zeus developer and will report back if I hear anything. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bucko2109 · 2023-02-27 01:19 Actually the programmer didn't erase it out of spite. He died. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinacolada459 · 2023-02-28 07:12 Ah, I stand corrected. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bucko2109 · 2023-02-28 18:46 No problem at all. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ci_V_ic · 2023-03-09 11:12 I preferred Prometheus BBS, first as a user and then also as a Sysop. It looks like it may have been a bbs or some kind of forum. It has a number of message groups, some on Amiga and other areas. It was in use until late 1996. Anyone heard of this software ? Thanks, Jim ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RunPsychological5595 · 2023-03-30 18:47 If you'd like to see Zeus in action running on an Amiga 1200 check out my BBS here: [http://www.ciaamiga.org](http://www.ciaamiga.org) or telnet to [ciaamiga.org:6400](https://ciaamiga.org:6400) we have weekly chats every Saturday nite at 10pm EST. All are welcome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kiwijimm · 2023-05-08 18:48 Hi, I used to run an Amiga BBS back in the 90's. Not Zeus, but 4D-BBS. Sadly I can't find my old 4d install or the BBS data otherwise I would try to resurrect it. Also sadly, it seems that it is very tricky to get hold of keys for old shareware BBS software etc to run a full board. It's almost impossible to buy them now and for the these esoteric bits of software finding keys by "other means" is also hard. It would be great to preserve some of this software in all its glory! I did find the blog you mentioned above though which means I have been able to experiment with Zeus. If there is a way to pay for a key for Zeus (or any other Amiga BBS software) I would happily do so! I Anyway as I say, I have been messing with Zeus for the last month for a bit of a nostalgia project. For my project I want to be able to parse the mbzeus messages. The format doesn't look complicated and I am sure I can figure it out but... If you are in a position to do so (I understand if not!) is there any information you could share about the format used to store mbzeus messages on disk? Thanks, James ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bigfug · 2023-05-08 19:22 Hi James, I'm in contact with the chap who now owns the source code and has been supporting it all this time. We are looking at potentially opening up the code but it's not available yet. I'll post an update if and when I have one. Best wishes, Alex ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kiwijimm · 2023-05-08 20:30 Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply! That would be awesome if the code was opened. I await news! Thanks, James
