Anyone remember a game played in chat on the Broderbund BBS? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mydarkerside · 2022-12-31 17:25 I played this game on the Broderbund BBS chat, but it might not be exclusive to them. Broderbund had a dial-in BBS that teenagers would go to and use their group chat. But there was a game that we played that involved moving around a map and hiding bombs and destroying bombs. It was ASCII text drawings I believe. I don't know if this was a game developed by Broderbund BBS or a user installed it somehow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BizzyHaze · 2023-01-02 09:46 Flash Attack? Was a popular game on MajorBBS software. Up to four people could play. https://ia800806.us.archive.org/20/items/swizzle_demu_FA22/fa22_000.pn g ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mydarkerside · 2023-01-04 00:00 I'm 90% certain that it was this! It's been 30 years, but it looks like what I remember. I remember hiding the mines mostly, but don't remember anything about tanks, seekers, and all that. And for some background, Broderbund (the software company) use to have a BBS with something like 20+ phone lines and a group chat similar to IRC. Local teenagers basically took over the BBS to chat, hang out, and play games like Flash Attack. We even had real life meet up's. Great times and fond memories. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BizzyHaze · 2023-01-04 00:09 Yah, they probably used MajorBBS software since that was the only software that could support so many lines and group chat. Flash Attack was only playable on MajorBBS. We had a local company that ran a similar BBS and I remember playing the game, it was my first real multiplayer gaming experience. Now I play Fortnite and League of Legends, my how far it has come lmao
