Good dialup BBSes reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ImageJPEG · 2022-12-31 09:55 I’ll be receiving my serial cable for my modem next week. What do you guys recommend for some popular dialup BBSes? Also, I’m using FreeDOS with the mTCP telnet for my telnet connections. What would you recommend for a terminal emulator (probably wouldn’t be bad to get one for dialup too)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2022-12-31 11:47 Diamond Mine Online is available for both Telnet and Dial-up. The Dial-up line is (540) 369-2900. Telnet is [bbs.dmine.net](https://bbs.dmine.net) (port 24 for Synchronet, port 2323 for WWIV). I also maintain a good list of the remaining dial-up BBSes at [https://www.telnetbbsguide.com/bbs/connection/dial- up/](https://www.telnetbbsguide.com/bbs/connection/dial-up/) Also note that there is also a service (not run by me) that makes ANY telnet BBS that's listed at the Telnet BBS Guide a dial-up BBS. It's called the 2600 network. Details can be found here: [https://2600.network/](https://2600.network/) Happy BBSing! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dialsoft · 2022-12-31 14:30 Im thinking of throwing a modem up on mine too. what a throwback. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2022-12-31 15:05 It's not insanely hard. The biggest thing if you don't have a true POTS line is to get an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA). For my board I use a Cisco SPA112. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ImageJPEG · 2022-12-31 15:21 Aren’t ATAs typically built in to most residential cable modems and fiber boxes? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ImageJPEG · 2022-12-31 15:23 I’ve been using your site for a few days, actually. I love it! I did check out the dialup section but I also wanted to know what’s been active - hence this post. Any recommendations for a DOS client as I think all you have listed are for Windows and Mac. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- codefenix · 2022-12-31 15:30 Check out BananaCom. I've used it in DOSBox and it seems solid. Telix and ProComm are other old standards that get frequently mentioned. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2022-12-31 21:15 Definitely Telix. I use it in DOSBOX-X and it works great. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ANSiNiTRON · 2023-01-01 01:04 you can technically reach all of all of the telnet ones through the dial up aggregation service found at [2600.network](https://2600.network) .. happy ATDT ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jcs · 2023-01-01 01:18 It's not popular, but you can call my Macintosh Plus at +1-312-654-0090 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ImageJPEG · 2023-01-01 01:20 Will do when I get that serial cable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2023-01-01 11:49 True. My Verizon FIOS VOIP phone line is actually pretty good. I heard cable company ones are hit or miss, though. But I can vouch for FIOS being relatively good.
