busyBBS utility provides a "busy" message for 0ld sk00l single user BBSs reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- veeb0rg · 2022-11-28 04:33 This is intresting, I run a 4 "line" bbs, I should check and see what response it gives when all are busy. Maybe a feature to add would be for multiline use? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2022-11-28 08:49 Any chance of a 32 bit version? Many of us run 32 bit Windows vms with our bbs' under them for more stable dos door support. I run 20 nodes (major overkill), but this would be nice in the case that I'm overwhelmed by bots. Looks like a nice utility. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnPolka · 2022-11-28 09:31 For those of you who run muti-node BBSs... BBS users connect to a node through a single port, correct? Or is there a port for each node? My utility right now assumes a single port and single user configuration. This works perfectly for the BBSs that I run which are 0ld sk00l (single user) Atari 8 bit BBSs. Plus, the single node restriction makes the utility very lightweight. A multi-node version could be possible, but it would require a little more work. I'd also have to put up a multi-node BBS to test it on. Which multi-node BBSs might need something like this? I was under the impression that most multi-node BBSs would already have something like this. As for a 32-bit version...What version of 32-bit Windows are some of you running? I have limited resources for testing 32-bit Windows versions. -JP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro1337_000 · 2022-11-28 12:05 it probably says all lines are busy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- veeb0rg · 2022-11-29 04:25 Mine connects through a single port. I might just be jumping the shark, the software probably already has the function. e. looks like it does. If I was still running the vintage single node this utility would be super handy though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnPolka · 2022-11-29 04:58 Which BBS software are you running? Yeah, I figured a multi-node BBS would have a "busy" function. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- veeb0rg · 2022-11-29 05:25 WWIV ---------------------------------------------------------------------- byteknight6 · 2022-11-29 19:39 Cool! I use TCPser on a Raspberry Pi to emulate a modem for one of my BBS's, and it allows you to create a custom busy signal message. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnPolka · 2022-11-29 19:52 Yeah, there are some devices that provide this functionality. The WIMODEM232 from Jim Drew, for example, allows you to create a custom busy message as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro1337_000 · 2022-11-30 08:14 I don't know why someone downvoted me but i'm right. your bbs says all nodes are busy when it's full. :D :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro1337_000 · 2022-11-30 08:17 your software says all nodes are busy when it's loaded up. have you tried using a proactive firewall on top of what you have? i use peerguardian/peerblock with a custom blocklist. pretty simple syntax in the .p2p file ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2022-11-30 22:10 I didn't know ele did that. I'll look at peerguardian/peerblock. Hopefully it'll run under my XP VM. Thanks! Right now, I have the xp firewall and am blocking telnet connections that attack my and bring me down repeatedly. Just 2 so far. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro1337_000 · 2022-12-01 06:04 you should just run windows 7. it's lean enough and less exploits. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro1337_000 · 2022-12-01 06:10 here is elebbs with busy https://i.imgur.com/DoCqwtd.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shurato99 · 2022-12-01 06:48 Very much appreciated.
