Best resources for Mystic BBS reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badassbradders · 2022-10-21 15:00 Hey guys, I am currently setting up a Mystic BBS and would like to find a step- by-step guide on how to get games onto it. I have a few Infocom games I'd like to upload and was also wondering what the limitations were in terms of what I can feasibly upload for my users to enjoy - Circuit's Edge is a prime example. I love what the 8Bit Boys have done with theirs and would like to have something similar but more catered towards the cyberpunk vibe I am going for. Google really isn't helping me to understand much about this, so any points in the right direction would be super cool... Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CatOfTheDecade · 2022-10-21 18:03 Do you want to upload them so people can download them, or are you trying to make them playable? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badassbradders · 2022-10-21 18:19 Not sure. I guess both. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dperry324 · 2022-10-21 19:49 the folks at bbslink or doorparty might have info on setion up infocom games. Hat least one of them has them set up and working. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2022-10-21 22:03 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- auric0m · 2022-10-21 22:09 check out gamesrv it has a bunch of old doors of different types pre- setup. good for decyphering how they work cuz the documentation usually sux https://www.gamesrv.ca ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badassbradders · 2022-10-21 22:54 Great I'll take a look. Honestly, I haven't got a clue how to marry up Games with the menus, or anything, literally going in stone cold on this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- auric0m · 2022-10-21 23:22 it really depends on the game and your host OS.. some require fossil drivers, or dosbox environments. others run natively on the linux or win32 shell. some like tradewars have a modern server app. have fun! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- grenadeselfie · 2022-10-21 23:36 ask away on FSXnet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badassbradders · 2022-10-22 07:30 Cool, just getting used to it all, so I'll it a try, thank you!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hhhuuugggsss · 2022-10-22 12:13 The infocom games aren't native doors so that's a few step along in the door games journey. If you want you can start with [BBS Wordle](http://www.bbswordle.com/downloads.html) even if that's not a game you are interested in. It's got compiles for most systems and the sysop.doc has a step-by-step for Mystic so it should be the lowest barrier for entry (outside of some of the Mystic only stuff that's been developed). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badassbradders · 2022-10-22 21:34 So you mean, install this and then that's basically how I would go about installing others? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- badassbradders · 2022-10-22 22:01 So is this an alternative to Mystic? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- auric0m · 2022-10-22 22:18 it can be but it is not a full featured bbs.. i run it as a telnet door from my mystic. some people expose them directly on the internet over rlogin or telnet. to see mine in action telnet.holdfastbbs.ca:2323 main > doors > interzone gamesrv .. i host connections to external ones as well, eg: quazar ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hhhuuugggsss · 2022-10-25 19:07 I just think it's probably the most straight forward install, and once you get one you'll get more by tweaking settings and what not.
