The oldest GIF? - "BOB_89A.GIF" reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- french_mouse · 2022-03-10 18:27 One of the first GIFs I remember seeing from a BBS (that wasn't R rated!) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- banksy_h8r · 2022-03-10 22:10 AAAAaackchually.... that's the GIF89 reencoding, the oldest would be the original in GIF87 format. Provided that really is the oldest image encoded as a gif, which seems plausible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ILikeBumblebees · 2022-03-11 00:06 The thread that OP links to even explicitly includes older images posted right above this one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- banksy_h8r · 2022-03-11 00:15 I saw, it's a great post. In my pedantic post I was specifically referring to `BOB_89A.GIF`. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Practical_Cartoonist · 2022-03-11 01:02 Holy shit. [That last one](http://i.imgur.com/MKIH67q.gif) had a big effect on me. It unlocked a memory I didn't know I had. I can't remember if I used cshow specifically, but I suddenly remember in about 1990 using a GIF viewer to look at that exact same gif and it rendered exactly like that. I don't know why, but for some reason I miss the days when computers weren't fast enough to display an image all at once, and you could watch it render from the top down. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RooR67 · 2022-03-11 02:38 I miss EGA and VGA graphics lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cjxmtn · 2022-03-16 04:21 2400 baud modem, 1 horizontal line at a time. You had to have patience for porn back then. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4_bit_forever · 2022-03-29 21:40 Check out r/vintagepixelart and r/vintagecgi
