In the middle-to-late 80s, before most people had Internet accounts, this is what multi-user chat looked like. Fire up your terminal program, connect to an Apple // computer with a bunch of modems hanging off of it, and chat in plain text at 300 baud. The lines could also be used to call other ddials and link them in something not entirely unlike an IRC network, except over phone lines. As for long distance charges, it is rumored, "there's a way around that." [Allegedly](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telenet#PC_Pursuit)... [Although quite possibly](http://cd.textfiles.com/group42/PHREAK/PHREAKS.HTM)... At an age when people would actually form dumb tribes around computer platforms, 300 baud ASCII was amazingly egalitarian. No matter what computer you had, you were looking at slow, 300 baud text in plain ASCII. No ANSI, no emoticons, just...plain text. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PaulLee420 · 2022-03-15 02:23 Neat - I logged in tonight. :P Thanks for creating this - I always like jumping in to past ways of communicating, whether BBSing, kdx/hotine'ing or otherwise. Another cool 'BBS' creation is [klud.ge:23](https://klud.ge:23) on ANSI telnet... the dev created his own BBS-style software with threaded messaging. I appreciate that you developed this, and its made my bookmarks. Hope you come by 2o fOr beeRS, but I'm just a standard ANSI telnet BBS. :P ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dialsoft · 2022-03-15 02:28 Thanks Paul, I was Marc there tonight. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dialsoft · 2022-03-15 02:29 whats the address for the 2o fOr beeRS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PaulLee420 · 2022-03-16 02:04 [20ForBeers.com:1337](https://20ForBeers.com:1337) (ANSi Telnet) [20ForBeers.com:1339](https://20ForBeers.com:1339) (www) [20ForBeers.com:10700](https://20ForBeers.com:10700) (KDX/Hotline)
