I just had a (possibly taken) idea for a joke BBS that displays cursed
images when you log in. Obviously, you shouldn't have to create an
account for a livestream of cursed images, so can I configure Mystic
to allow guest accounts, or just use a standard TELNET connection and
some kind of homebrewed script?

Homebrew script that answers on a telnet port is pretty trivial to
implement.  The problem is how cursed can any character-based image
be?

There are probably a ton of ways to do this, but you could just make a
user with the name and password of "guest", and mention that in the
login screen.

I've always avoided the words cursed and blursed on Reddit.  NEVER
understood.
