Midian BBS Software? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lucidphreak · 2021-05-06 17:50 I am a BBS software collector.. I actually have more stuff for MSDOS than "the bbs documentary" collection has... lol... One thing I haven't been able to track down is an obscure bbs software called "Midian".. I cannot recall if it was complete or not - but if it wasn't it wasn't far off from being complete.. I don't think I had the source but dont recall for sure. I do remember it having very different ANSI graphics from anything at the time. Anyone have this one in their collection??? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Android8675 · 2021-05-06 20:28 Got any copies of BB/ST (by Steven Grimm, and before you ask, I contacted him, he doesn't have any copies) for the Atari ST? I have v1.00, but I'm looking for something closer to v2.2x. Used to run a board back in the day, software lost to the annuls of time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lucidphreak · 2021-05-06 22:50 I’ve got a few copies. Will need to put my NAS on line and see which they are… ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ShooterJennings · 2021-05-06 23:32 I’d love to check out your collection sometime... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Android8675 · 2021-05-07 01:41 Thatd be amazing. I will of course check my stuff for Miriam, but spinning up old HD’s may be a bit hit or miss. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnaClocker · 2021-05-07 02:10 Yeah, that bbs documentary collection is seriously lacking. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ebookit · 2021-05-07 02:51 The BBS Documentary is lacking in Atari, Commodore, and other BBSes and software. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bleuge · 2021-05-07 09:52 It would be great if OP could upload to [Archive.org](https://Archive.org) or whatever. Thanks OP! :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- markmay76 · 2021-05-07 15:00 Anyone have a copy of Opus v1.03b. It was certainly common enough back when I ran it, but I've not been able to find a copy of it on the net, cdroms, nor in my archives ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Iron_Slug · 2021-05-07 20:01 I have the 1.02 to 1.03 update package. No mention of "b". Does that help? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-05-08 02:58 i don't think it's supposed to be the 'be all end all' of file archives. he puts up files that people send him. saying you have more files than the bbsdoc means nothing. if you downloaded all my files from bbstorrents you have much more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-05-09 18:32 whats the filename ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lucidphreak · 2021-05-10 18:10 not really... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-05-10 21:19 okay, that really shows what you know ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lucidphreak · 2021-05-11 20:59 I know you specifically are asking about 1.03b… I just wanted to make sure (and I’m sure you do) you know that 1.79 is up and available both on the authors website and on Jasons page… And if you truly are targeting 1.03b, would you mind sharing why - I’m simply curious. Opus was always run by PD boards so I was never very interested in it and I definitely have zero clue about what would have made 1.03b special! :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lucidphreak · 2021-05-13 21:18 I had two copies in two places, both are 1.0. Will continue hunting for you though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Android8675 · 2021-05-13 22:05 I appreciate the effort. I fear the program is lost, but thanks a ton for looking. What I should do is see if I can rev. engineer what I have and put it on github. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- markmay76 · 2021-05-13 22:30 Just nostalgia. When I started that was what most of the board in town were running and also what I started with (moving to Quickbbs, Remote Access, and finally to my own software). Version 1.79 doesn't just look the same as I remember it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- markmay76 · 2021-05-13 22:30 Do you have a place I could grab that. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lucidphreak · 2021-05-13 23:54 Your own software ? What did you write? And since it sounds like you are an RA/QB fan, did it resemble those two? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- markmay76 · 2021-05-14 22:17 Mythical Kingdom (MK). Yes, it is very much in the QB/RA style. As BBS's were winding down in the 90's as the Internet became more available, I was really a bit late to the scene. I did end up releasing the full Pascal source to it, hopefully pieces of it were useful to a few people. Now with Telnet-based BBS's, I've recently restarted running a BBS. I was going to covert my code to Javascript, but in the meantime I've been running Synchronet. I'll have to admit that I haven't found anything I couldn't make Synchronet do with sufficient time, so completing my own code again in Javascript doesn't seem as urgent.
