Suggest a BBS? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ILikeLisp · 2021-03-30 05:04 I've been a lost user since Alcoholiday disappeared. It wasn't just the themes or the friendly sysop, it was the amazing messaging area. Just about every feed was available, from Fido to Spook. I'm looking for a BBS with a lean, retro-futuristic theme and maximum conversation capacity. Can someone help me out? Ideally one that's been around a long while and won't disappear like Alcoholiday. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nevarro · 2021-03-30 14:50 Alcoholiday was a fun BBS. There are plenty of BBSes with functioning message networks, though I do not recall any offhand with a futuristic theme... You could head over to [http://synchro.net/sbbslist.html](http://synchro.net/sbbslist.html) and see if any strike your fancy. This is the only listing I'm aware of that lists message networks that BBSes are members of along with a login screen preview. Might be worth a shot? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-03-30 15:13 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ILikeLisp · 2021-03-30 15:39 I found a couple on there that have sizeable lists; but none of them have the \_awesome\_ combined echo view that Alcoholiday had. Alco had all the echos with their areas listed on one screen, bolded if there were new messages inside. Slate Hell looks promising, but it lacks the indexed message reader. I'm guessing that was a Mystic thing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nevarro · 2021-03-30 16:04 Hmm, I haven't run across that. It sounds like a really neat tool! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KrUpTi0n · 2021-03-30 19:04 check out the telnet bbs guide website. I can't think of the the exact URL, but google will show you. they have the most extensive BBS list of active BBSes! They show lots of stats, BBS software, message networks they are connected to, etc. You can even log into BBSes from the website! if you're using symcterm, qmodem, and a few more BBS clients, they have a ready to use, pop in BBS list you can download and add to your client! (ie syncterm.lst) I also run a few BBSes, The New Frontier \]\[ - [frontierbbs.net:23](https://frontierbbs.net:23) The Amiga Frontier (1) [frontierbbs.net:2023](https://frontierbbs.net:2023) The Amiga Frontier BBS: [frontierbbs.net:8888](https://frontierbbs.net:8888) and last but not least, The WWIV Macintosh Frontier: [frontierbbs.net:2333](https://frontierbbs.net:2333) ALSO I have a website that's my BBS portal/blog/history! [http://frontierbbs.net](http://frontierbbs.net) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gnu2tux · 2021-03-30 20:28 I'm launching a bbs soon which complements my YouTube channel (https://YouTube.com/AlsGeekLab), which is all about retro computing (and BBSing). I need much more ANSI work to fit the aesthetic. I have signed up for tqwnet and wil be signed up to RetroNet & fsxNet very soon. I'll sign up to any other echos on demand. I am ensuring it works with basic ansi terminals found on old PCs or Amigas, so this will remove any fancy long scrollers or animated bars etc. I want it to be a reasonable experience at 9600bps. I have MRC and a few other mods there too, I'll customize MRC to use a little less bandwidth I reckon. The bbs is already running but there's not enough there yet to be proud of it, so. I'll keep it until it's good and ready, so if you want something specific to retro computing, hopefully it will become a.good destination. The bbs is hosted in a datacentre in Germany. It is backed up nightly and I have been hosting in that dc since 2002, so I have no anticipations of letting it go. If anyone wants to make ansis for me, I'd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ChiGuy2010 · 2021-03-30 21:21 Odysseybbs.ddns.net:8080, ssh:8081, http:80 Fsxnet, Retropi, and Dove.
