Accessing my CLI Forum via Telnet or Similar reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PornSoftware · 2020-11-20 05:48 Hi, So I basically tried to combine Reddit, Twitter and Craigslist then shove the result into a command-line application called [Blackpage](https://www.producthunt.com/posts/blackpage). But I'd like to fall more in line with how people telnet into MUDS and some BBS'. Problem is, I have no idea how any of that works! Hell, I just figured out how to use Github the other day. I'm just a guy who's written C code (with one Makefile, always) in Linux for a decade. Anyway if anyone has time to walk me through this I'd appreciate it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nevarro · 2020-11-20 14:44 Cool, I think the design has potential. It looks like a console based forum (like phpBB) from the screenshots. I made my own bulletin software because I'm not a fan of how BBS message bases are handled from a UI style. I think my BB software looks somewhat similar to yours, though with more color since BBS clients support ANSI. [Screen shot](https://www.facebook.com/serionbbs/photos/a.958665690994448/1338 769122984101/) I suggest that, if you're interested in the BBS community, 'dial' into a few. Signup and explore BBSes and become involved. That's probably the best way to become familiar with how a BBS works and how your software could fit in. Good luck! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PornSoftware · 2020-11-20 15:32 That’s a damn cool look! And yeah you’re right I’ll dig deeper ---------------------------------------------------------------------- howtophil · 2020-11-25 22:50 Mystic BBS has a "call external program" menu option which you could use to call your Blackpage program and pass the username along with the call. This would shift credentials checking to Mystic BBS which would handle the telnet/ssh connections and user signup.
