Which BBSes should I add to the dial-up modem pool? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ramsaso · 2020-11-15 19:32 You may recall a week or two weeks ago, I posted on here how I got a Patton 2960 to be effectively a modem pool for a BBS a friend wanted to "show off", basically. I have discovered in the settings of the Patton, the ability to add users up to 114 times I think or up to 99 times, which means, that a user context I create in the Patton, can be automatically redirected to a telnet/BBS session. With the plethora of numbers I'm hosting, I want to share this functionality to anyone interested in dialing a BBS from an actual dialup modem. IF a BBS proprietor wants callers to be able to dial in using an actual modem, please leave in the comments below, the FQDN or IP address and/or the port number (should it not be default) so I can add it on the Patton RAS. Thanks! (PS: I have no intentions on creating sabotage against any network.) * New York City (not a 212 number, unfortunately) : 332-206-0834 * Atlanta: 470-298-3070 * East Los Angeles (Rialto rate center): 909-990-1230 * Albuquerque: 505-208-6370 * Miami (incl. the Keys): 305-749-5008 * West Los Angeles: 213-616-9510 * Salt Lake City: 385-248-5680 * Las Vegas area (Clark County): 702-620-5120 * Reno: 775-209-7120 * Philadelphia (Zone One): 215/798-5050 * Orlando: 407/476-1277 * Boston: 617/993-0512 * San Francisco No.1: 415/231-1260 * San Francisco No.2: 415/236-4850 * Oakland, CA: 510/201-5500 * Houston: 346-385-5665 * Austin: 737-825-9124 * Fredericksburg, VA : 540-340-9140 * Akron, OH : 234-702-5300 * Cleveland, OH (Terrace Rate Center) : 216-260-2250 * Dallas, TX : 469-501-5890 * Nashville, TN : 629-262-5701 * Portola, CA : 530-322-4030 * Portland, OR : 971-256-3870 * Sydney, AUS: +61 2 8278 0766 / 02 8278 0766 * Auckland, NZ: +64 9 8876960 / 09 8876960 * NPSTN: 785-1012 Username | Password | Connects To --------|--------|----------- com1 | com1 | 1984 BBS com2 | com2 | Interlinked BBS com3 | com3 | RetroBattleStations.com BBS com4 | com4 | Amiga Underground BBS com5 | com5 | Amiga City BBS dmine | dmine | Diamond Mine Online BBS xibalba | xibalba | Xibalba BBS agencyNZ | agencyNZ | Agency NZ BBS SiliconU | SiliconU | Silicon Underground BBS serion | serion | The Realm of Serion BBS dangerbay | dangerbay | Danger Bay BBS - The Official BBS Door Games & Apps Museum pots | pots | 20ForBeers BBS shadow | shadow | Shadowscope BBS theunderground | theunderground | The Underground BBS PRISON| PRISON | The Prison Board BBS (Dallas, TX) capitol | capitol | Capitol City Online hoy | hoy | 13th Floor BBS bootfact | bootfact | Boot Factory 2k BBS darkforce | darkforce | Dark Forces BBS sotano | sotano | Sotano MSX BBS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2020-11-16 00:34 Could you please add the Diamond Mine Online BBS? Not understanding all the technical stuff behind your setup.. I see there are numbers listed above for Sydney, do you know if there is any phone number available in New Zealand (where I am based with the BBS) that can be added to the pool etc.? Curious to understand how the phone numbers that are listed came to be :) Thanks again. I think you will find a lot of folks will take you up on your kind offer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ramsaso · 2020-11-18 02:43 I am located in the U.S. The number in Sydney belongs to someone in Sydney who is graciously providing us access to his numbering resources and is basically forwarding it here via NPSTN on an IAX trunk. NPSTN is completely different than the regular telephone network where it is maintained with the most emphasis in the quality of voice, hence modem connection, to be instilled on every user who dials in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ramsaso · 2020-11-18 05:23 Sorry for the late reply. I considered doing this recently, I have been playing with a USRobotics NetServer/16, currently I am using it as a 16 channel retro dialup ISP. On the topic of Canadian telephone numbers that I saw a few people ask for on facebook, you could consider getting some numbers from a company like [www.voip.ms](https://www.voip.ms) and redirecting them to one of your new york DID's? I have been even using toll-free number for my dialup stuff and it is not impacting the quality enough to impact speeds. Just an idea, maybe helpful maybe not. I know it costs money and this is all hobby projects, I could redirect numbers I already have if you are interested, or I could paypal you a donation to the cause and you can setup some numbers at [voip.ms](https://voip.ms). Nice Work! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ramsaso · 2020-11-21 23:28 The only problem is, is the cost per minute involved with the call(s) potentially going to a potential DID in Canada. I'm using a ULEC whom has given me full permission to use our upstream provider's vast amount of numbers we are allowed to use within the continental United States with 1 MOU (million of units) to use. That's what makes it vital for me to use Regional Telephone Corporation, based in Rochester, N.Y, USA. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ramsaso · 2020-11-23 06:09 I got a number in the Terrace Rate Center.
