Are there any modern bbs's that use a client\server system like hotline or wired? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- timbernutz · 2020-11-09 18:42 Are there any modern bbs's that use a client\server system like hotline or wired? or are those not considered bbses by the community? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chairmanmow · 2020-11-09 19:17 I think most BBS's are using a client/server system, the BBS is usually the server and your terminal is the client. But if I'm to understand your question maybe as intended or I can answer better, I'll take it you meant something along the lines of 'are there any bbs's I can connect to using a hotline client or setup a BBS that is connectable via a hotline client?' Quite possibly although I haven't done it myself, I remember Deuce was working on it for Synchronet, and looks to be supported, although I haven't found much beyond basic setup docs ([http://wiki.synchro.net/service:hotline](http://wiki.syn chro.net/service:hotline)) if you're looking for a list of boards that have the feature enabled, I don't know of one, but I'd imagine at least Deuce has the feature setup on his board since he worked on it ( ([https://nix.synchro.net](https://nix.synchro.net)). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcadeshopper · 2020-11-09 19:29 Worldgroup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- timbernutz · 2020-11-09 21:20 not so much hotline itself but a similar dedicated client server system. while i like text and ascii there are not many that embrace it, ssh or telnet( even if text is still primary). community forums, messaging and sharing files, pics, etc have never been more popular. even a basic low overhead p2p system similar to retroshare ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PraiseBobSlackOff · 2020-11-10 00:08 Check out - http://kdx.technowiki.info/ I think this dev was one of the early Hotline guys and splintered off. This site has not changed in ages, so unsure of anything there actually works. Hotline has its own special place in my nostalgia. That was one of the best ways to get warez back in the day. The software was fast, the transfers seemed quicker than ftp and the community was tight. Getting access to a private tracker full of loot was always a bonus. When it started getting popular on Windows systems was when it kind of jumped the shark and turned into this weird clickbait system where you had to go clicking on ads to get tracker passwords (if you were lucky). There was another clone on Sourceforge. I forget what it was called. Maybe search for Hotline on there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- serideru · 2020-11-10 00:43 Wildcat 5 had a dedicated client.
