Creating a BBS server with chat and games reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyoshiwen · 2020-08-27 02:15 Today in 2020, can I still create a bulletin board system to host chat rooms and games? What software should I look to, and are there any engines or anything else out there that'd make it easy / simple? Also, what is the difficulty level of developing / creating my own BBS game? (and maybe on-top of a base game that already exists?) Attached is a sample of the type and style of art I'm looking to implement into the BBS game. [text art that I had done a while ago](https://preview.redd.it/v2qck3z nfgj51.png?width=568&format=png&auto=webp&s=b225f190ba75a064ebbd7cd029 8f3391b0b31002) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- redbrickchimney · 2020-08-27 02:35 check out Synchronet BBS http://synchro.net shameless plug: flee.fsxnet.nz:2323 if you want to see my Synchronet BBS or ask for help there. =) nice ascii! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyoshiwen · 2020-08-27 02:51 Ahh, ok! xd Thanks! I hope to make a BBS game with it. :d ---------------------------------------------------------------------- redbrickchimney · 2020-08-27 03:34 Synchronet is BBS software... i guess you could make a game with it's Baja language or javascript. There's all kinds of door kits to make BBS games on http://archives.thebbs.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyoshiwen · 2020-08-27 03:39 Ohh, ok. o: Wow thanks! xd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- redbrickchimney · 2020-08-27 03:50 there's also r/bbsdoorgames ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyoshiwen · 2020-08-27 03:54 Wait, are there any that could maybe be recommended apart from the others? As in, kits that might stand as more tailored for creating BBS door games if you may know of? From this same webpage I mean "[http://archives.thebbs.org](http://archives.thebbs.org/)". Or if there are any search parameters I should use to locate the kits? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyoshiwen · 2020-08-27 03:58 woah thanks :d ---------------------------------------------------------------------- redbrickchimney · 2020-08-27 04:02 the door developer kits... http://archives.thebbs.org/ra102a.htm keep in mind this is all very old stuff, if i come across more or newer stuff I'll ley you know. I'll ask my friend who is working on a door game too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- richorr70 · 2020-08-27 06:06 If you’re ok with Pascal, then I might recommend RMDoor by Rick Parish. You can find it on GitHub. I’m using it to build a new BBS door game myself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmine45 · 2020-08-27 08:53 There are many kinds of BBS software still out there in development. Synchronet and Mystic are #1 and #2. But there's also Legacy/X, Wildcat, WWIV, and renewed interest in the development of ProBoard and Worldgroup. I've run Synchronet since 2000 and it has pretty much a modern Internet based BBS could and should have. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyoshiwen · 2020-08-27 17:58 Ah thanks! :d ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyoshiwen · 2020-08-27 17:59 Oh ok. xd Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zyoshiwen · 2020-08-28 18:27 I've just gotten my hands on both Pascal and RMDoor. I'm not sure of how I can load the RMDoor files in to use with Pascal? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- richorr70 · 2020-08-29 07:31 You have to start a new project and include it as a unit. Look at Rick’s LORD project as an example.
