Doors & Games to feature on my upcoming documentary reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gnu2tux · 2020-08-18 08:36 Hi All, I'm well into scripting and editing now of my upcoming BBS Documentary, which if you are not aware of yet, it is there to promote BBS's to new blood. It's not a history documentary, it's about BBS'ing in 2020+. I want to feature some doors which exemplify modern BBSes. Especially those that intertwine the Internet and BBSes. For example, The Coronatracker, Weather and MRC chat will all feature. Do you have any examples you could share? If so, which BBS are they on, and what is their name? The same applies for games. Although it wasn't the most popular, LORD2 had a completely different approach to previous games because it was fairly immersive in terms of graphics and size. I'd like to show more 'graphically appealing' games than the likes of Trade Wards and LORD1, so if you can make any suggestions again, that would be awesome! As always, any general feedback for the documentary - things you'd like to see, things you think a person who is 'new to BBS's' might like to see, please let me know! Cheers! NB I don't often hang out on Reddit so if you want to get me quicker, try these: Twitter alsgeeklab / youtube: [https://youtube.com/alsgeeklab](https://youtube.com/alsgeeklab) / [https://facebook.com/alsgeeklab](https://facebook.com/alsgeeklab) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2020-08-18 19:24 LORD and other games sometimes utilized RIP Graphics. Could give that a whirl. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Glocktavius · 2020-08-18 20:41 Tradewars 2002 is still out there. You can run it without a BBS now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gnu2tux · 2020-08-19 08:39 I'm not suggesting it isn't ANSi btw. I'm just saying that rather than seeing all text, it might have a little bit more in the way of ANSI characters or interactivity. LORD2 is a good example of this. All ANSI as far as I know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nevarro · 2020-08-21 21:50 I'll toot my own horn here. I've built some tools (doors I suppose) into the Realm of Serion BBS and made modifications to existing ones including: 1. Tweaking the chat system so that it works better with IRC integration 2. Building a news and weather module accessible from the main menu 3. Building a local bulletin board with design inspired by Reddit Web: [serionbbs.com](https://serionbbs.com) Telnet: connect.serionbbs.com As far as more graphically interesting door games, definitely take a look at John Dailey's Dungeon Master. It renders a 3d environment using ANSI. Another that comes to mind is Arrowbridge 2. Both games are hosted on Serion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gnu2tux · 2020-08-21 23:15 Very cool! I like your board. What language/scripting did you use for the news & weather? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nevarro · 2020-08-22 06:03 Thanks! I used javascript for the bulletin board and the news & weather. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nevarro · 2020-08-23 03:36 Another game I just thought of that's not a text scroller is The Pit, which is also on Serion.
