But no relation to that company. But that was the original name in the early 90s. I placed a newspaper ad, and they screwed up the name dropping the space between Star and Dock and missing the K. I kinda liked it, and just made a 2 second edit to the BBS source code. Was cheaper and easier then placing new ad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarDoc_134 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RolandMT32 · 2020-08-18 13:35 > Great user name btw. Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WWIVPENGUIN · 2020-08-18 13:42 I have doors working, File section SHOULD work, but I don't really have a desire to host files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cwstephenson71 · 2020-08-18 13:49 What version of WWIV are you using? I stopped running public because of those 2 things. It's been over a year. I'll have to stop by your BBS today. Thanks for the info ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WWIVPENGUIN · 2020-08-18 13:51 A MT32 is at the Top of my list of Nostalgic wants. I just can't justify the cost right now. I keep looking around for one I can snag at a reasonable price. One day tho. One day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WWIVPENGUIN · 2020-08-18 13:55 I'm running v5.5 Development [https://github.com/wwivbbs/wwiv](https://github.com/wwivbbs/wwiv) I'm a few commits behind (89a0e6ed51698111d61c1f350adf917476e98975) the master branch. I made a few changes myself which I need to fix due merge conflicts. I will probably do that in the next week or so. April-July I had a TON of time on my hands due to Covid lockdowns, so a lot of work got done on the BBS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cwstephenson71 · 2020-08-18 14:18 Omg! So happy! I love WWIV, when i get home I'm going to reinstall it! Doors work with DOSEMU? My main BBS is Synchro, if I can get doors and files up I would replace Synchro ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WWIVPENGUIN · 2020-08-18 14:49 Yes, if you can get DOSEMU to work. The problem is DOSEMU hasn't been touched in like a decade in any meaningful way. It doesn't work on 64bit CPU's (without running your system in a 32bit kernel), and it requires you either run an old kernel, or patch a new kernel. The way DOSEMU handles legacy DPMI memory is a BIG NO NO security wise and is no longer allowed. So the answer is "kinda with a lot of caveats" You can use it if. A. Running 32bit only, B. old or patched kernel, C. your dos app doesn't use DPMI (say goodbye to tradewars 2002) But for myself, I use BBSLink for many of doors, which is nice because it increases the number of users playing the games by combining the user base of many BBS's. As for Local stuff I am either running Native linux versions, Or I recompiled older DOS doors (that I could get the source for) to run under native Linux like Usurper and Lord. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cwstephenson71 · 2020-08-18 14:58 That works even better! I'd rather not use DOSEMU. I'm excited about WWIV again! Glad you posted, thank you SO much!
