How do you go about registering TELIX in 2020? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2020-06-28 23:11 I used to use Telix and Procomm Plus back in the day, but right now have Telix installed in DOSBOX. Is it possible to still register that? I still have 44 days to go before it expires, so probably not a huge deal, but just curious. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Scoth42 · 2020-06-28 23:46 It looks like deltaComm of Telix fame was bought by Technology Associates, Inc in 2000 https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/stories/2000/09/18/story4.html . It's not clear if Telix is included in that sale or not but it sounds like the Telix dev was working on spinning down the company. It looks like TAI is still a going concern, with Eric Hobbs still the CEO. So it might be worth reaching out to them. I'd say the chance of them having any knowledge of Telix is about zero though, much less being able to generate a registration code. Tracking down Jeff Woods might be an option too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Galileo228 · 2020-06-29 00:08 Procomm Plus. There's a name I haven't heard in years. My dad and I used it to call CompuServe when I was 10 or so. A few years later when I got into BBSing I used Qmodem... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- orion3311 · 2020-06-29 01:06 Posting here so I can come back later...I'm kinda curious about this as well, used Telix today, and still have my original dialing directory from the 1990s. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- spentmiles · 2020-06-29 01:13 Just launch it with a batch file that sets the date to 1980. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- resmungomandinga · 2020-06-29 01:23 I have a similar problem. I'd like to register PowerBOARD BBS but it seems NuIQ and Scott Brown are long gone. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lagavulin16yr · 2020-06-29 03:10 Telix.... woah. My youth. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2020-06-29 03:13 Thanks, too bad they couldn't just give out some generic code at this point to unlock it :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2020-06-29 03:15 Wow, thats cool. I think all my old files are on some floppy disks I cant access. Ive just been using to store the telnet BBS's. I cant get it to auto dial, so just putting the address as the name and the name in the phone number part. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2020-06-29 03:15 Ya I guess when my 44 days are up I can do something like that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adventureTruck · 2020-06-29 04:30 Qmodem!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -The-Sentinel- · 2020-06-29 05:49 Loved Telix, particularly telling a friend that was new to the BBS scene to press ALT-H for Sysop access :) They weren’t so impressed after taking hours to get through to the 5 line chat BBS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bleuge · 2020-06-29 15:26 Telemate, later Terminate was released, and never looked back :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Scoth42 · 2020-06-29 17:56 Actually, I spent some time poking around. I.. uh.. found some codes, but it turns out you need a special branding program to even put it in. There's also the automatic credit card registration mode that somehow works by calling long-gone servers, but there doesn't seem to be a way to manually register it even with a serial number. Unless you can find a... modified copy I'm not sure you'll be able to unlock it. I didn't spend a huge amount of time with it but maybe if you can find the branding program. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2020-06-29 19:13 Wow, thanks, I guess it will work until I can find something better. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-06-30 03:45 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- stlalphanerd · 2020-07-09 16:26 Try qodem. [http://qodem.sourceforge.net/](http://qodem.sourceforge.net/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blindphoneman · 2020-07-22 14:46 Hi: There are differences between the shareware and unbranded versions, see below. The shareware version, downloadable on most Internet sites today cannot be registered. Buyers of Telix had to wait for a physical disk with a special unbranded version, which couldn't be used at all until branded with the serial number. In version 3.51, at install time, you were asked for your serial number and name, then the TELIX.EXE file was branded with this information. Now, the good news. I just tried this in FreeDOS on a vm and it worked. I ran down the days left until it wouldn't work. Then, I deleted the "TELIX" directory and re-installed and got another 45 days. You do have to reconfigure, but, unless you can find the unbranded version somewhere, that's your best option. Also, the disk that contained the unbranded version of Telix also had the "hostplus" bbs program included in the "TELIX.DAT" file, and it was different than the one normally downloadable from the Net today. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ebojager · 2020-07-22 16:50 Thank you. Atleast I know I'll be able to reinstall it when the time runs out. I do have allot of programs on floppy discs from my BBS days but dont have anyway of getting anything off of them at the moment. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- denzuko · 2020-07-22 19:51 Qodem would be a near one-to-one replacement. Though I remember hacking telix back in the 90's to get around the expiry (would register in 2020 though if one could). Basically it uses file timestamps on the config files to determine the amount of time left. Personally, I'd take it as a good hacking challenge to write either a keygen/patch. But in this day and age it's better to just support open source projects or use tools like ckermit or uucp-extended which has better native scripting(e.g. batch/rexx/etc..) support anyways. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- denzuko · 2020-07-22 19:52 UUCP/Extended: [http://www.kew.com/kendra/uupc/](http://www.kew.com/kendra/uupc/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- denzuko · 2020-07-22 19:52 MS-DOS ckermet: [http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/mskermit.html](http:/ /www.columbia.edu/kermit/mskermit.html) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dwerva · 2023-01-17 05:45 [You're welcome.](https://archive.org/details/telix.-3.51.-dos-crack- win) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- b33znutz · 2023-09-02 18:20 Hero.
