Pyroto Mountain reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheQuarantinian · 2020-06-13 09:46 Is there even a single PM instance running these days? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Iron_Slug · 2020-06-13 19:44 Why not set one up? [http://tc.bbs.thenet.gen.nz/$webfile.send.SL- DOORG./PYROTOC2.ZIP](http://tc.bbs.thenet.gen.nz/$webfile.send.SL- DOORG./PYROTOC2.ZIP) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eclectro · 2020-06-14 01:40 I [found this](http://dictionary.sensagent.com/pyroto%20mountain/en- en/). Evidently the original creator passed away. It would be safe to assume it is an entirely proprietary license. It's an interesting internet artifact aka "ghost site." It should be noted that Linux recently did away with mandatory 80 column text formatting for their source code. There was a slashdot article about that. I mention that because technology does change. Even though it might seem useful in some circumstances. The same goes for proto mountain. Thanks for mentioning it. Interesting memories. I wonder what the last logins were before shutdown. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eclectro · 2020-06-14 01:41 What's the license for that?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ShooterJennings · 2020-06-14 23:17 I studied this game a bit for my new bbs game 1NS0MN1A - I took a few things from it. Namely the sysop role in the game and the requirement of the sysop being a part of it. But this was a masterpiece of a system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheQuarantinian · 2020-06-15 19:21 the domain pyrotoinc.com is still registered, but there is no hosted site that I can find. I found yip.org that seems to be about Pyroto, and includes the following less-than-inspirational notice > "Pyroto" and a bunch of other words here are trademarks of Pyroto, Inc. Thomasnet.com has a page for "Pyroto, Inc" that is some sort of training scheduling software According to https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_ma/000654910 the trademarks on "Pyroto Mountain" for the Pyroto, Inc corporation expired/were cancelled in 2011 multimegacorp.com is a site that claims trademark rights over "Pyroto" but the page has next to no information on it. I don't think it is quite abandonware, but looks like it is headed that way eventually. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnPolka · 2020-06-21 06:02 I remember there was another BBS based on the Pyroto Mountain concept called Fremen Mountain (FM). Does anyone remember this BBS? There were a few based in various cities. It was my understanding that they would only sell one license per area code. I believe the first FM BBS was in Chicago. I called one in the Cleveland area. The Cleveland FM was always a bit mysterious because it just went online one day. The SysOp remained in the shadows the whole time it was up. No one knew who they were. -JP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- richorr70 · 2020-06-24 00:29 I used to run Pyroto in Calgary in the mid-80s. Awesome system. Maybe I’ll try out that archive above and see if I can find a way to host it. Years ago the creator sold the rights to some other company that made an internet version. It collapsed years ago. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- richorr70 · 2020-06-24 04:13 I am going to try and bring it up in a cloud VM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thedigitalinfinity · 2020-07-10 00:31 I reviewed this game awhile back on YouTube and I couldn't even imagine actually playing it with a live community back in the day. The thing was like a Battle Royale before that was even a thing. The company that owns it now asks for you to give them an estimate on how many people you think will be playing so they can quote you pricing for hosting it or something like that. It seemed all too shady. there is no posted prices or anything I would have loved to have used this as the BBS back in the day. A lot of Canadian based questions for the trivia, but that was to be expected it was developed by a Canadian programmer :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- richorr70 · 2020-07-24 16:23 I now have Pyroto Mountain up and running: **telnet:** bbs.mysticmountain.us (port: 8086) or.. pyroto.mysticmountain.us (port: 8086)
