How to install trade wars 2002?(i get an error) reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DimmaDomeDough · 2020-06-03 20:26 Hello again! I tried to install tw2002 recently and got to a problem with my dosemulator, I need to open tedit.exe to Co figure my nodes but it just doesn't work, I can't open an exe file with dosemu Is there any fix for this? Thanks in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnaClocker · 2020-06-03 21:13 Are you just double clicking the exe and expecting it to work? Or are in inside dosin dosbox, changed directory to it, and then typed twedit? Like this: C:\>cd\bbs\doors\tw2002 C:\BBS\DOORS\TW2002>twedit If that isn’t working for you, post a screenshot. Also, what version of TW2k2? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- analog_potatoes · 2020-06-04 02:27 Tw2002 doesn't work with some dos emulators due to poor DPMI handling. If you are getting a DPMI or memory type error, or the emulator is crashing, this is most likely the problem. I believe it works in Dosbox, but not in Dosemu. Personally, on my BBS, I run it natively in real Dos under Qemu. If you jump on any BBS that has FSXNet or SciNet, you can probably find numerous posts about this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- analog_potatoes · 2020-06-04 02:36 For the sake of completeness, in order to use TW2002 under multi-node properly with Qemu, you need to mount a share drive that all the instances can see. The reason is, Qemu and Dos lock the file table, so if you try to share a directory as a drive (which can be done in Qemu) between two Dos instances during multi-node playing, it will not work. TW2002 requires a share drive that can be the central repository for all the nodes to know about each other and use the data files. What I've done is use an NFS share in linux, with XFS for Dos (NFS Dos port) to mount a share on all the Qemu Dos images. The thing that makes this approach nice is that your Qemu Dos image can be a pristine image that you can copy when a BBS caller wants to play TW2002 since all the games files are on the share. I use a ram drive, well 5 of them for my 5 nodes, each about 30 mb to copy the pristine Qemu Dos image to. Then with some bash scripting magic, you can launch Qemu and pass in the BBS drop file. The Dos image boots in a couple seconds and launches TW2002 using the NFS share. If anyone wants help or needs some scripts and a run down on how to do this, hit me up on my BBS at [Deadbeatz.org:23](https://Deadbeatz.org:23). It's not for the faint of heart, but I can help get you there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DimmaDomeDough · 2020-06-04 03:15 First I tried tedit, then I tried to do it with wine, and then I even changed from dosemu to dosbox None of them seemed to work ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DimmaDomeDough · 2020-06-04 03:19 I use Linux btw ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DimmaDomeDough · 2020-06-04 03:30 Now when I ran the command above, nothing happened-but nothing crashed Is that supposed to be? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DimmaDomeDough · 2020-06-04 03:31 I did get it to at least tell me what's wrong and it said to install dosbox which I did Now, dosbox is just sitting there doing nothing It's kinda stuck saying Controller or whatever It misses the alsa drivers but they are installed ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wintrmte · 2020-06-04 05:14 This is the most detailed explanation I have seen. Enjoy the upvote and I’m going to come visit your bbs for more details. Thanks for taking the time to post this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cwstephenson71 · 2020-06-04 19:09 Curious, what BBS program are you trying to run this under? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DimmaDomeDough · 2020-06-05 19:38 mystic, it sees that i wanna run the program, opens dosemu and runs the tw2002 file even if i didnt do tedit yet and now it tells me the dpmi version is wrong ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cwstephenson71 · 2020-06-05 19:47 I'll be home later, I'll write ya, and see if I can give a fellow SysOp a hand! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DimmaDomeDough · 2020-06-05 20:18 oh i thank you so much, this dpmi error or dosemu just giving up is making me crazy i got no big community - so if you wanted i even gave you access (in my country its normal to just trust) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cwstephenson71 · 2020-06-15 21:24 I haven't forgotten about you, my 6 year old had surgery a few days ago.
