Which BBS game could I use for a personal coding project (bridge IRC/BBS)? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- absalom29 · 2020-04-12 15:50 Hi, being the IRC guy from the https://xkcd.com/1782/ story, I truly enjoy some games like IdleRPG and even more MultiRPG http://idlerpg.org/ . As a personal lockdown project, I would try to code some BBS/IRC bridge with the following ideas in mind. I actually want to have somme BBS running; I don't want to rewrite or adapt the game. Knowing that you are playing on a true BBS game would be part of the game experience. Thus, I would like to write a bridge for a specific game - by converting on-the-fly between heterogeneous event types. I don't want to match the exact display of the BBS game: of course, ANSI would be discarded, as well as menus which would have to be turned into some other types of commands. Furthermore, my project would emphasis all events becoming publicly displayed on the channel of the game (of course some specific ones could be sent by private messages as well if required). That being said, I would like to start from the most favorable game, and this is what I am asking for here. Which BBS game would be the easiest to use for my purpose in regards to: * one big menu is OK, but I would like to avoid sub-menus, especially in quests: performing an action shouldn't pop-up new choices ; ideally, the format of the events should be stable: if you want to attack something, you have a given result with stats, no unexpected sub-choice; * most of the gameplay should fit in small sequential events (most of them being the results of actions), and events should be short (eg: "Tom has attacked a lizzard and won; he has lost 2HP and discovered 4 gold coins"); that would be the most important part of the game and I would like to make a stream of all these events in the public channel; * of course, the game has to be multiplayer, this is a major requirement. Which BBS game could more or less suit my needs? Thank you by advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wndrbr3d · 2020-04-15 12:13 I don't know a game off hand -- but it'd have to be one from a multi- line board software like WildCat, TBBS, VBBS, or WG/MBBS. Not something that was a door but a game/concept that was designed for real-time interaction of multiple users.
