The speaker works fine in other things, everything in the modem looks fine, it's not the volume wheel itself. I get no audio output at all. Near as I can tell it's something in the board circuitry. The answering modem needs to be put in the right mode (it's ATB - I forget if B0 or B1 is HST mode, but it's one or the other). The originating modem will respond accordingly to the answer tones that the answering modem gives.
